Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez is dead right on addressing Mortgage Fraud!

In the November issue of Elena Carpenter’s “Miami Monthly” they list the new Mortgage Fraud Task Force Members – in an article written by the Mayor. Alvarez said this Task Force is led by the Miami Dade Police Department and he states that it is the first public/private partnership created in the State to address mortgage fraud. Thank God, it is about time! Both Gimleteye and I have been reporting stories about mortgage fraud for almost a year with no one the least bit interested in our findings. The Mayor says we are 4th in the nation for mortgage fraud (how do we know this since there was no one to report the fraud to until now?).

I didn’t see any Lobbyists on the Task Force (hit on image below to enlarge). How can Miami-Dade have a task force without a lobbyist on it you might ask? Is it possible? Maybe I am not recognizing all the names but it looks like this one has the potential to get something done because the County Commission didn’t put their usual suspects on it. We shall see. (I bet Gwen Margolis never shows up unless Dan Gelber drives her).

While you are correct that there are no lobbyists on this task force, the sister of a very influential one, Rodney Barreto, is on the task force.(Nancy Hogan)

You are also correct about Margolis not attending this past Wednesday's meeting, neither did Gelber. One memeber asked a very profound question as to where are the lenders? I think the task force failed to initially invite any of the major lenders and Presidents of local Realtor Associations, but at this last meeting, they brought in some of the "big guns" from the State's Department of Financial Services Investigative Unit. Next meeting in on Wednesday Jan 16th 10am-12pm.

Now I am depressed...about Hogan. Very disappointing. Why oh why can't they stop with the same connected people? I think I would be good on the task force. I could do my own research and I would go once a month at least. The fraud doesn't stop for Christmas! Thank you so much reader for the info....

Well, I have to say this group was hand picked and they have had a tremendous amount of interested parties wanting to join. My impression is that they are serious about the subject and they will be announcing more arrests soon. They will have a press conference on Dec 5 at 10am to discuss that. As for Hogan, at least she has the experience of being a FREC Commissioner and they don't play around when it comes to fines and suspending licenses. Let's see.

The appointees were hand picked by the Chairman. All the folks add value.

Expect more work and more legislation soon.
