What went wrong at the Women’s March in Las Vegas. By Geniusofdespair

Pink Hat Discontent Syndrome in Las Vegas

Vegas Show Girl at Rally
I spent a lot of money to plan a trip to Las Vegas for the 2018 National Women’s March.

It was poorly planned and executed. I will never attend another march planned by this group. The speakers mostly sucked. They had us sitting in an open air, cold stadium for hours and hours listening to very boring mostly self congratulatory speakers. I was over an hour late and missed nothing. I found myself not being inspired but only focused on waiting for Cher to appear. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and left without seeing Cher. Same crappy speakers were in Washington, D.C. in 2017 peppered with a few good speakers. This one had no pepper. And this one—unlike Washington—had zero marching.

Don’t waste people’s time. Why would I want to hear so many local speakers? This was a local rally billed as a National March. No Marching here. I don’t like being used and I don’t like Las Vegas. And frankly some of the speakers were dismissive of white women...the majority of the audience.

I don’t like the Republican Party but I don’t like the platform of the Democrats either. Both parties are playing to the interests of their narrow bases. Republicans are destroying every facet of our environment and packing our courts with ultra conservatives and all Democrats are focused on is immigration. I am lost in a sea of discontent. No one represents me. Especially not the guy in the White House that put a partisan recorded message disparaging  Democrats on the White House number.

Women need a lobbyist group in Washington. Take a list of 10 of the biggest problems facing women in America and start working on legislation to fix them.

With all due respect, you are really a gop'er from years--decades--back and that explains your affinity for JJR and Debbie M. Powell--no shame in that but that is not progressive--that is DINO

The Democratic Party has no good clear message. You can’t win without including voters you need to win elections. They need to change there rhetoric to give more potential voters a reason to vote for them.

This is an editorial blog. I support candidates I don’t post comments from the opposing candidate’s campaign workers with no substance.

Besides you are so far off topic...

You should have stayed here! We had a great time in Wynwood. There were lots of information booths and representation of local (Florida) politicians. OUR issues. OUR women. OUR next election. Why go to Vegas when we have very important midterm elections that WE should be focusing on? Our next election is about Florida and who we pick to represent us. Unless you are casting your vote in Nevada, you should have stayed here! And, if you are really running for Duran's seat, you should have had a booth and been a speaker!

People think there should have been a march component, but I was happy with what the organizers did.

GOD,
Sorry, but this is nothing new. Too many people on the left get hyper-focused on their specific "issue" and fail to see the big picture. I saw this at a rally opposing the 1st gulf war 25 years ago. Half the speakers were droning on about their pet causes - get over it!

I'm sure that the rally had its share of speakers railing about the evils of "Whiteness". It is all too easy for media outlets like Fox to exploit this. This is why traditional Democratic strongholds like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania went for Trump. It was a cry for help, but are activists on the left listening?

What do you expect from Sheldon Adelson's town?

I don’t question that the overall intent was to protest Trump - but it veers off message into subsets - well this is what democracy looks like - sloppy.

I think it is important for us to understand the data and reality. There are more women than men in the United States. In this country, women represent the majority of the registered voters, and the majority of the voters who actually turnout for elections. This is true everywhere, in every jurisdiction, and in every election. EVERY elected official who exists, is there because women elected them. This includes Donald Trump. All of the elected power in this country from dog catcher to President of the US is decided by women. The numbers don't lie. Marching is good, but it is the vote that counts. The POWER in America rests with WOMEN, and WOMEN alone. They determine the outcome of every election, who wins and who loses.
