Juan Zapata (the commissioner of the district) made a motion to transmit and deny. He doesn't believe the covenant means anything that the developer offered to put on. Only Barbara Jordan believed the covenant and SHE was one of the Commissioners that lifted it on the Brown application. What a creepy thing to do...to act like it has meaning when Barbara Jordan knows she helped make it meaningless by lifting the covenant against residential on the last application that moved the line. At least Juan Zapata wasn't fooled by the covenants.
He made the same motion for Green City that failed. Zapata had Souto, Jordan, Bovo, Barreiro (will someone run against him), and of course Pepe Diaz. The developer begged that someone locate Monestime.
It is a 6 to 5 vote in favor to transmit and deny. Monestime not there. It needed 7. Absent Districts 4 and 2 districts. No: Districts 3, 6, 7, 8, 9.
Zapata made a motion to deny, that passed.

Do bad stuff, get paid lots. Miami way.
Fresen always works for development interests. That's why I cringe that he's speaking in favor of Ludlam Trail and working behind the scenes to make it happen.
It should be Pepe "the putz" Diaz..........I cannot wait until he's up for re election. He is the worst of the unreformables right now. Jordan is just a hypocrite.
The lobbyists and hired guns were out in force at the County Commission meeting yesterday. Especially thick for the National Marine Manufacturer's Association Miami Boat Show item. Brian May was one of the Boat Show's helpers. And it was fun to watch the Commissioners fess up and confess they had met with lobbyist Ron Book and the Boat Show President and all the encounters they had with Boat Show reps. They had to do this because the County Attorney required it due to it all being a violation of the a rule that prohibits communications outside the actual public hearing on "quasi-judicial" proceedings like the environmental permit for the Boat Show's 830 boat marina in Virginia Key. But no worries, as long as the commissioner could stated they could be "Objective" and "impartial" - they could vote and didn't have to recuse themselves.
Is our county government a joke on taxpayers? Is it just for special interests? private interests? Does anyone care about the needs and rights of citizens anymore? It was my first time at a County Commission meeting and I was horrified this is how our government works. And oh yeah, they made us wait 8 hours to speak on this item after they went to their holiday luncheon and then had a public spat about who knows what, bickering among them for power.
If you are opposed to a UDB application, why do you make a motion to transmit it to Tallahassee where there is no real review. If you are opposed, common sense dictates that you make a motion to deny the application; not deny and transmit. It is like being for it before being against it, because you did not have the votes. It was a blatant attempt to keep an application to move the UDB alive.
This is by far the most anti-envirinmental county administration I've ever seen. Don't let Gimenez fool you during election time. With the exception of LevineCava and Xavier Suarez the County Commissioners are either oblivious or just unevolved or just sold out. It's painful to hear "the animals know how to live with us humans," as I heard one of the unreformable and uninformed say right before granting the NMMA a permit to build a mammoth marina and industrial trade show on oublc waterfront next to a wildlife area. Really? Is that why we are at record deaths for panthers? Why species are on the endangered and threatened list? Why the world is entering the sixth extinction? Ugh.
It's environmental....posted by someone that English is NOT their first language.
