Very interesting that the Knight Foundation also gave the Homestead Mexican American Council $60,000 in December of 2014 to "start a Mariachi Music Academy." Cip and Maria Garza really rake in the cash from wherever it comes.
For the record, http://wlrn.org/post/weird-miami-youth-mariachi-knight-foundation-awards-229-million-grants. According to the genius who runs the City of Homestead web page on September 17, 2013 Congressman Joe Garcia and city councilman Elvis Maldonado were pictured with Cip Garza and a mariachi performer.
To recap close to $100,000 was spent for a "start up of a music academy" after they were already performing. Sweet deal. The thought of singing for their supper must have never occurred to anyone associated with this ACADEMY. http://www.cityofhomestead.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=525
The Homestead Mexican American Council does not represent all Homestead Mexican Americans. It mainly serves to represent the personal and special interests of Cipriano and Maria Garza, and a very close knit group of individuals.
The CRA of Homestead has little to zero accountability as to the council's penchant for rewarding their cronies. Once again there is Shiver, Knowles, Hall-Dennis and numerous other fly by night charlatans who compliment council members citing unreliable and unproven numbers. Will it change under any Homestead administration? The simple answer is no. This is a proven way to siphon cash to the friends and family of the council. Where are the audits, background checks bank statements and records of incorporation? Sometimes the gossip is that financial difficulty of a council supporter would generate a move to bail that supporter out with a CRA sponsored influx of cash. Since the follow up generally consists of a photo of new paint those charged with the task of insuring the money was spent as intended are satisfied. The circle of corruption is now complete and nothing is improved, no full time jobs are created and the next scheme is entertained at the council's pleasure. Millions have been spent and yet SW Krome Avenue out to SW 187 Avenue up to SW 8 Street remains a ghetto. The election in Homestead this year will once again hinge on getting this area to vote for the incumbents. The money to get that vote out generally comes from the CRA one way or another.

I am astounded at how far left leaning the Council has become in such a short time.
Love it. FIFA should take over the local CRAs.
In an election year in HUDstead when you want the Mexican vote you had better give whatever they request, or else.
