“Big Sugar supporters hiring actors to pretend to protest is pathetic,” said Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo. “Someone should ask who is paying for artificial sweetener to make polluting the Everglades and our drinking water easier to swallow.”
Please see the below screen grab of a Broward Acting Group’s Facebook post offering to pay for pretend protesters to back Big Sugar’s attempt to get out of the land deal they made with the State of Florida.
The Facebook post has since been taken down: http://act.progressflorida.org/go/14236?t=2&akid=1232.3526.L3Ueva Who exactly is paying the fake protestesters? Inquiring Floridians want to know. |

This is the worst thing I've heard in Florida. I know lobbyist's do this sort of thing -- hiring people to wear T-shirts to meetings --but it appears the South Florida Water Management District is involved and that, to me, is betrayal to their mandate and misleading to the public.
I would think it would be against most actor's code to get paid to protest.
This Karen Donohue is sketchy just for suggesting the job.
Tea Party? LOL! I guarantee the people who take them up on it will be African American Obama voters!
Can't wait for the crowd pics!
It must be Tea Party people because Tea Party people always hang out on FB pages for effeminate actors. Yeah ... sure.
Big Sugar is shady and disgusting. No surprise there - what concerns me is that there are people, who sell out their water supply, their fellow citizens and their environment blindly for $75. I guess that's the going rate for your soul t the Broward Actors group.
"This Karen Donohue" happens to be my mother. I highly doubt that, had she been aware of the nature of the job, she would have posted the listing. She is a democrat. The group is for actors, and actors need work. You might want to look into these things before suggesting a person is willing to sell their soul.
It would be a public service for Karen to disclose who contacted her about posting this gig.

More than 50 actors from a Broward County acting group were paid $75 each to protest outside the South Florida Water Management District on Thursday about a controversial land deal they knew little about.
The protest was called by the Tea Party of Miami and Florida Citizens Against Waste, a recently formed group that has no contact information on its website and is not registered to do business in Florida.
I attended the Water Resources Advisory Commission meeting at which the Teabaggers were purportedly protesting last Thursday. I can tell you they were almost completely invisible to the members of the Commission. They weren't protesting before the meeting when members were entering; when they did "protest" outside later on, all one could hear inside the meeting room was some muffled noise; and not a single "protestor" signed up to provide public comment opposing the land purchase during the meeting. (In contrast, five or six people spoke in favor of the US Sugar land purchase.) As protests go, this one was pathetic and practically invisible--except to some cameras, perhaps, which was probably the point. This was a huge waste of money by whomever paid for these actors.
Guys, you have all been trolled. She posted that ad to discredit the tea party. Look at her profile, she is an occupy supporter, Obama supporter etc... you have been had.
Actually the actors were there so she might be a liberal but a job is a job. If it were fake the actors wouldnt have showed up to demonstrate.
