Ultra Music Festival in Bayfront Park 2013. |
Let's call it little Woodstock. 284,000 people were there over the two weekends. Woodstock had 500,000 concert goers. I was at that one, didn't get to Ultra. Here is a video of the event. I do like the music, and would have gone if not for the crowds. I like all music except Country. Anyone live near Bayfront park? Would love to hear your comments.

Next year, you can head over there with me.
It is quite an experience to see the mass of people.
M
sounds great!
I remember the mass of people at the Obama thing in Bayfront. It was intense.
But at Woodstock when I awoke on Friday and walked to the field where the show was and saw the hundreds of thousands of people from a hill, it was sort of scary. I thought STAMPEDE!
So, we took a perfectly wonderful public library building and tear it down and build an ugly bandshell. Then we take a ugly park on biscayne bay (and band shell) and stuff 300,000 people in it ---- for commercial purposes.... Killing the grass, blocking the park and water front from the visitors and residents for several weeks all in the name of cultural events. Nothing like an ugly fence 8 foot chain link blocking the astronaut memorial which was supposed to be a visual anchor to the new and improved bayfront park park.
Those druggie customers of Ultra Fest should so to a vacant lot in central Florida. They ruin our parks and they cheapen downtown Miami.
I don't get it. People pack in front of a stage to watch a guy turn knobs and fist pump?
I went to ultra. Not inside, but hung out on the boulevard in front. From my point of view, this is one of the best events Miami puts on. Thousands of kids doing what kids do. You may not approve, but this is what kids like. They were all much better mannered than some of the drunks stumbling out of the brickelll wine and food festival, which was happening at the same time. I believe there were 183 arrests out of 300,000 people. Not bad at all.
For the most part these kids are smart, educated and resourceful. And they are at that age when they are making decisions about where to go after college. Miami looked incredible and I'm sure more than a few will decide to call it home. And I think we will be a better city for that decision. BTW, I am a life long, 50somethimg Miamian.
I've been working on an Ultra Music Festival Review and was looking at your site for inspiration. I started following your site because I love the content, hope you do the same with mine or even link back! Awesome work :)
