County Chain Link Fence Saga. By Geniusofdespair

YouTube

Lynda Bell known for her trailer park mentality when it comes to neighborhood ambiance doesn't disappoint with her being the prime sponsor to repeal the chain link fence ordinance that prohibited chain link fences in the front of homes, for unicorporated Miami Dade County. The current county ordinance for unincorporated Miami Dade prohibits chain link fences from being erected in the front of your home - but not the back - in an effort to beautify neighborhoods.

Some Commissioners with large unincorporated areas supported the ban. Many cities have similar bans. Javier Souto has a district that is entirely unincorporated and he supported the ban.  Lynda Bell, seeing herself as the supreme arbiter on just about everything, decided she knew what was best for Souto's district.  He sees chain link fences as jail-like. I just see them as ugly, but can relate to the jail-like look.  Lynda Bell thinks they look great.  Commissioners Monestime, Suarez, Souto and Zapata voted no but the 'Yes' votes prevailed. Heyman was absent.  Uglier neighborhoods, here we come!

I just think Bell takes a lot on, affecting OTHER DISTRICTS without regard for the other commissioners and their constituents. Her tunnel vision: I like it so others be damned. Tea party activist, Bell is taking on one regulation at a time, drop by drop...

Chain link fence in front of  a house in Hialeah. They apparently have no ban on fences in front of houses in Hialeah. Nice house, lots of cement and metal.

Lynda Bell's Neighbor's Chain Link Fences, Bell must like the view.

I wasn't surprised to see that Bell herself did have a chain link fence.

I can create and entire stand up routine on Bell and her wacky ideas. Too bad the majority of the BCC goes along, probably because they really don't care and their areas are incoporated! Zapata & Souto should be pissed.

In any event, laws/shmaws. I'll never forget when Bell was campaigning she had her little toy dog running around off her property without a leash. I actually called animal control who didn't do anything. Then, after she was elected, he daughters "service dog" got out from their yard, big news because it had to do with the Sweetwater PD, Bell tried to stay under the radar but the TV camera's caught her behind her daughter.

What a PoS this Bell is. Ding bat or just Vile or whatever. She needs to go........

Does she cut & color her own hair? I just had to ask.

Every time I look at this moron or hear her speak I keep humming the theme from Deliverance!

Lest us forget, she's a "church lady" or whatever. I still cannot believe the County allows it to be used as a polling place!

it's ironic that with all the talk in the national press about women in leadership roles, miami-dade has the lock on bad women in leadership. chain fences in front yards are depressing on 2 levels, aesthetically and property values of all houses around them. nothing says "i wouldn't want to live in this neighborhood" like a chain link fence in the front yard.

Lynda Bell studied community planning at Gomer University. Her idea of art in public places is a rusting Cadillac on blocks. Her notion of gourmet food is "chicken & dumplins" and a side of corn dogs. Her muse is Jewelry TV.

It will take a decade to undo her 4-year mess.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Bell: Miami-Dade Commission Lord and Savior.

Chain link fences are inexpensive. Not everyone is rich like EOM bloggers.

I think it was the Elmer Fudd school of hillbilly ville planning....Next up will be bars on windows for everyone instead of impact resistant windows or shutters!

ugh, who needs a friggin fence in the front yard, anyway? if you want to say " hey public, the sidewalk ends here" then plant some green, living things and keep the chain link fence in the backyard where no one can see it..

You don't need a fence in front of your house.

Chain link fences are, and were allowed, in the rear of the home for your pets etc. The resolution ONLY changed it for the front of your house to ensure your home would look ugly and so barking dogs would be barking all the more as pedestrians passed on the sidewalk.

I live in a condo we don't have walls or fences here. nothing cheapens a neighborhood like a chain link fence. I guess you want your property values to go down reader? Blacktop is cheaper than landscaping why not just pave over your chain-linked yard?

Nobody said EOM bloggers (or its readers) are rich. They just have class. Lack of money does not mean you don't have taste. It is unfortunate that money cannot by you class.

Has Lynda Bell's daughter been able to buy that house yet or do we have to continue to push out deeper into the Everglades to continue to depress prices even more?

What I do with my property is my own business. It's funny that the same people who oppose gun ownership are also against fences to secure our property.

Lynda Bell will completely swallow up the other commissioners. Lynda will have your communities angry with you by the time you decide to campaign again. Mrs. Sosa Lynda Bell is going to be your worst nightmare. Get a gripe and show the leadership you have the other commissioners get some Balls. By the way when did Lynda change her name from Linda to Lynda.

Thank you Commissioners Monestime, Suarez, Souto and Zapata for not voting for this. I live a few blocks from Lynda Bell so I guess I am a hillbilly too but I don't think we should have chain link fences in front of houses ANYWHERE. I may be a hick and I may not have a lot of money but I have class and care about how my neighborhood looks.

How does Lynda Bell get the rest of the commissioners to vote on tea party agenda to get rid of regulation? Black Democrats on the County Commission, get smart, you are voting for the Republican Agenda one vote after another. Monestime is the only black commissioner with a brain, able to figure it out.

Some of these comments are hysterical! I love the fake "staw man" crap about "rich environmentalists" and Bell somehow being a poor person and so much more. Being deemed as a Hillbilly has nothing to do with net worth, at least in my thinking, which is what I do!

Genius, my property is 100% fenced including in the front as are a lot of properties out in Redland. The difference being is that we don't have sidewalks so it would be an odd occurrence to have someone walking along ones front yard. However, in the residential neighborhoods inside the UDB, I bet Bell probably want campaign contributions from the fence people, along with the new unlicensed pool people and of course, the rock minors!

Let's see what her next bag of tricks brings. I like the bars on the windows idea only if you have a chain link fence in your front yard. Nothing says run down, high crime area to prospective buyers like those two things!

I think that in the Redland, there is a different character, no other area has a back 40 like the Redland and as you point out, few pedestrians.

In a residential neighborhoods, if you want to fence your front, do it with a hedge.

Chipping away at regulation...DERM, pool contractors and now fences. How dumb are we?

Your post is gone because you violated the rules of this blog.

Chain link fences devalue property. Nothing says ghetto quite so eloquently as chain link fences for residences.

This resolution sponsored by Bell is nothing compared to another that she has in the works. It directs the Mayor to stop enforcing environmental law against several individuals who filled dozens of acres of wetlands with thousands of truckloads of hurricane debris. Call it the “let the polluter off the hook” law. Unbelievable.

Last anon, is that in the 8 1/2 sq mile area or the DuBois nonsense with the mangroves? Inquiring minds. Do you have any resolutions/ordinance number? I'd love to look it up.

Ironic that fences keep them annoying church people outta your yard!

Chain link fences are so ghetto. Alternatives do not cost that much more.

Get that dog in the backyard. We don't allow dogs in the front yards in our neighborhood!

Anonymous said...

Oh, Petey, you'd hate my neighborhood! My front yard is also fenced and I do have dogs that freely roam in the front of my property! Not only as a deterrent for burglars, but for unwanted solicitations as well!

On a much lighter note, for the heck of it, I drove around my neighborhood and who knew there were so many properties with chain link fences in the front. I wonder why they haven't received code violations because I checked before I posted this. I guess code enforcement is just selective or didn't know they weren't supposed to be there. Additionally, I would venture to guess these don't have permits either!

I lost count at around 20 and that was driving from SW 312 to SW 296 from US1 and from South Dixie then West to Redland Road! These are pretty rural/suburban or as some would say "Agridential" areas. When I went south of SW 312th in to Homestead, that seems to be where it gets pretty hoody with the chain link fences and bars on the windows.

Who knew!

I don't like Chain Link fences and MOST DEFINITELY no Fan of Linda Bell but a homeowner should have the option, in high crime low income areas Chain Link may be a necessity.
A HEDGE as GOD suggested would provide cover for would be thieves.
I Don't go to church so I ain't going to LET the EOM GOD dictate what I do.
