22,813 of our residents travel 90 minutes or more for work. Another 87,390 spend 60 to 89 minutes traveling to their jobs. That is a crime. 26.1% of workers travel more than 40 minutes a day.
Remember that District 8 was Katy Sorenson (now Lynda Bell), District 9 is Dennis Moss, District 10 is Javier Souto, District 11 was Martinez (now Juan Zapata), District 12 is Pepe Diaz and District 13 is Steve Bovo. Sorenson and Moss voted to hold the UDB line consistently and they also have the highest percentage of people in the 60 to over 90 minute category. They were/are well aware of the impact of sprawl. If you increase the pool to drivers having to drive 60 minutes or more, Joe Martinez's District 11 is tops for longest commutes. He always voted to move the urban development boundary, he didn't give a damn about sprawl or its consequences. Lynda Bell, the District 8 Commissioner recently voted to remove a 30 year covenant barring residential on a property in Martinez's district (that was outside the UDB line but moved inside the line recently ONLY because the developers agreed to place a 30 year covenant on the property). Sorenson and Moss were not fooled by the covenant in the first place. They voted against the urban development boundary move even with the covenant. Moss also voted against lifting the covenant. You would have expected Bell to follow suit.
