My Summer Vacation, Can You Guess Where I Went? By Geniusofdespair

The first two are pretty easy...it gets harder. Each picture is a different place (except the first and last). Win a free dinner with Gimleteye if you get them all. You might notice: I got a real camera!

Mexico?

The pictures were taken at different locations in the US. You need different guesses for each picture.

sedona for sure.

Sedona, Grand Canyon, New Mexico (don't know the City) & New Orleans?

Geniusofdespair said...

You are correct photo 2 is Sedona anonymous above . Grayland. Grayland you are correct as well.

I forgot, one of those is in Texas?

Number 8 is New Orleans. Although I stopped in Lubboth, San Antonio, Houston and Austin-- I did not include any photos here of Texas.

I don't know where the rest of your photos are taken but it looks like you had a good vacation. The poster/mural in 4 was my favorite. Native Anericans? That narrows it down.

Is number 4 a campaign ad? The two are holding ballots.

Number 4 is an outdoor Wall Mural in what city?

The two people depicted are not running for office. They are heroes of getting Native Americans the right to vote.

Nina Otero Warren was a New Mexico Suffragist and Miguel Trijillo addressed the issue of Native Americans being denied the right to vote because they were not taxed.

from Wikipedia:

With World War II and the need for more soldiers through the draft, Congress reaffirmed Native people’s citizenship with the Nationality Act of 1940.[52] However, when some 25,000 veterans returned home after the war, they realized that even though they had put their lives on the line for their country, they were still not allowed to vote.[52]

(MIGUEL TRIJILLO WAS ONE OF THOSE VETERANS)
MORE:
In 1965 the Voting Rights Act (VRA) put an end to individual states claims on whether or not Indians were allowed to vote through a federal law. Section 2 of the VRA states that, “No voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure, shall be imposed or applied by any State or political subdivision to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color".

Former Soviet Union, Cuba or Venezuela. Really. I give up.

I said United States....I DROVE to all these places. The wind farm was taken as I drove by at 75mph.

Anonymous said...

Mural is in Albuquerque and Big Ass Beer is on Decatur St in New Orleans. Wind turbines look like Nevada outside of Las Vegas. Nice driving tour.

Geniusofdespair said...

Last Anon: Right on all except wind turbines, I never got to Nevada. This is one of the biggest wind farms in the US....

Anonymous said...

Would that be the Roscoe Wind Complex in Texas?

Grayland said...

I thought Texas too, but I think it may be in California where GoD took the photo. That's the only other Western State I could think of having that kind of wind farm.

Hoover Dam electric poles?

Is it the Alta Wind Farm near Bakersfield CA?

That protest looks like the AFGE (American Federal & Govt. Employees) Union national convention in Las Vegas during mid August and their protest of Republican VP candidate Ryan's meeting with multi billionaire Sheldon Edelson, at his Venetian Plaza Hotel.....but you didn't go to Vegas, right?

Geniusofdespair said...

Wind Farm near Palm Springs. Protesters are in Las Vegas. Yes on Hoover Dam. Clever readers!!

Geniusofdespair said...

Looks like there are 2 missing now the one with the game and the other erector set looking one...

Anonymous said...

The erector set is the biosphere right?

Geniusofdespair said...

Yes you are correct! BIOSPHERE 2. We only have one left, where did I take the photo? Photo 3...

Hint: It was taken at a National Museum.

What is the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque?

Did you visit the Pee Wee Herman dinosaur a few miles from those windmills?

Geniusofdespair said...

Shulie you got the final answer correct! You win $1 million dollars. See Gimleteye to collect.

Peewee Herman?

The Cabazon Dinosaurs, also referred to as Claude Bell's dinosaurs, are world famous, enormous, sculptured roadside attractions located in Cabazon, California (just west of Palm Springs) and visible to the immediate north of Interstate 10.

They were featured in the movie Pee-wee's Big Adventure and video "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears.

It appears you were traveling to Palm Springs from the LA area on I-10. If so, you definitely passed them.

See Pee Wee and the dinosaurs here.

..pictures look like those recent ones from Mars.

Geniusofdespair said...

How could I have missed the dinosaurs? That will be a regret of my trip. I did see that movie too.
