I still support Shirley Gibson over one of the worst County Commissioners on the dais, Barbara Jordan. I would still vote for Shirley if I lived in district 1...but it looks like I will not endorse her.
Gibson got the endorsement of the Christian Family Coalition. I cannot endorse anyone that has the endorsement of this Anthony Verdugo group. They are an anti-gay hate group. Bad move Shirley. I do not always like everything a candidate does but I never throw the baby out with the bathwater. Getting rid of Barbara Jordan is on my to do list. The Miami New Times gave Shirley a thorough thrashing that she deserved for this stupid move and New Times said:
"Local politicians should be careful with dealing with the CFC. It may not be worth it, anyway. Verdugo say it represents more than 100,000 local voters. Their Facebook page, though, has all of 19 likes."

I wonder how Vanessa feels about this? I don't like what she's doing in regard to our Dist. 9 race, but I honestly don't like Gibson for this endorsement. There are many GOPer's who support Gay Rights. It's not exclusively a liberal thing anymore.
Shirley, I'm mad at you, but I'd still support you over Jordan like I'm supporting Moss, even though I want term limits! I hate these lesser than two evil contests!
Why doesn't SAVE DADE and Equality Florida stand up to this CFC hate group? it is time for them and other groups to make it clear to candidates that the CFC is asking candidates to support anti gay rights. These candidates are completely ignorant of the ramifications of a CFC affiliation, as there has been no education on exactly who they are. Has Mayor Gibson been anti gay rights while a Mayor? I don't think so, so why would she pigeon hole herself there now? Would she vote to repeal the county human rights ordinance? Was that one of the questions on the CFC questionnaire? This is a very slippery slope and other good candidates are proudly proclaiming their CFC endorsement out of what I believe is ignorance of exactly what this organization espouses. We all need to speak out educate all candidates better on this.
I am now more inclined to vote for Shirley Gibson. I like that she has some conservative views.
The people who read this blog live in a vacuum. In fact, the majority of U.S. and Florida citizens are OPPOSED to gay marriage. Everywhere it has been placed on the ballot (including in liberal meccas), the people have voted AGAINST gay marriage. Shirley Gibson is with the majority on this one.
This isn't about GAY MARRIAGE. Before that was even an issue this crazy guy Verdugo was militantly anti-gay, he was against the gay rights ordinance and got arrested and was convicted for falsifying signatures on a petition. 2003 (WAY BEFORE GAY MARRIAGE) New Times:
Well, okay, the Lord never said, "Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor with electoral fraud." But Tony! Neither did He say, "Go forth and bear false witness to petition signatures because homosexuals belongeth to an axis of evil." In the absence of an explicit prohibition, our local Christian Coalition leader apparently figured there'd be no problem. The issue was repeal of the Miami-Dade law forbidding discrimination against our neighbors because they are gay, lesbian, bi, straight, or asexual. Last August state law-enforcement officers arrested Verdugo and charged him with one felony count of false swearing during the Take Back Miami-Dade petition drive that forced this repeal question onto the September 10, 2002 ballot. (Agents also arrested three others in the Take Back family.) A few hours later Verdugo was out on bond, unrepentant, and preaching on AM radio about how he had been framed by Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas, the supervisor of elections, various prosecutors, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and other members of the homosexualist Mafia."
I'd prefer to see a shot of the folks at the press conference. I bet the room was empty and the pic was taken with an iPhone.
Ps. Verdugo is a closet case.
The CFC hate group has also endorsed Joe Martinez, citing his "respect for marriage."
Barbara Jordan voted for the Marlins "deal". Nuffsaid...
