Rubio, off VP list ... by gimleteye

It was a mystery, why Florida Senator Marco Rubio was even considered a possible VP candidate given his track record and questionable associations. If the media had done their homework and scratched the surface, it would have been clear that Rubio's record while a Florida legislator could not weather a punishing presidential campaign. The Miami Herald today mentions his David Rivera - like credit card issues. That's news to the Herald, as a deficit in the pro-Rubio account?

In a separate story the Herald notes that Floridians don't necessarily pay attention to facts. Sometimes in its choice of news to report, I question whether the Herald itself isn't to blame. Why didn't the deficits in Rubio's account ever appear in the Herald's breathless news coverage of his "appearance" on the short list? Anyhow, that is water under the floodgate.

There are many reasons for Mitt Romney to cross Rubio off his list, and some of them had to have been clear to Romney from the first. Like bringing the Jeb Bush wing of the Republican party into the forefront of the campaign. Jeb Bush attracts GOP extremists like filings to a magnet. That is not going to work in a general election. The Bush/Rubio voters are the "decideds". They don't help Romney at all with swing voters.

Leaving that aside, what really scotched Rubio are the Obama campaign attacks against the facts of Romney's business dealings -- his claim to have retired from Bain Capital while still signing SEC forms as CEO. Imagine the Democrats running campaign ads highlighting Rubio's credit card blotches alongside Romney's signature on the SEC forms.

The Herald missed my favorite story that popped up yesterday: Rush Limbaugh said on his Monday broadcast that the Batman film makers in Hollywood were trying "to brainwash audiences" by naming the film's villain, "Bane". As in Bain Capital. Thanks, Rush, for showing Americans how clearly the viewpoints you represent are paranoid malarky. Eventually the facts will win.

Rubio repeatedly said he is not interested in the VP slot. That's why he is not being considered. He can be forced to be on the ticket against his will. If he had said he was interested, he would have been selected in a heartbeat.

Ned, I bet you believe Batman film makers were trying to brainwash audiences.

He also said he was the Son of a Cuban Exile and we all know how that turned out.

He does whatever Jim DeMint wants him to do.

Hope you are right, but (lets drill for oil in every inch of the Gulf) Bobby Jindal? Rubio is better than Bobby.

It's going to be Portman, Pawlenty, or for a Palin-like roll of da dice, Condoleeza of Iraq War fame.

Not Condoleeza. She's pro-choice. Romney was too when he ran for governor, but he flipped on that.

If Rubio's record while a Florida legislator could weather a punishing senatorial campaign, it could certainly weather a punishing presidential campaign. Obama and Biden certainly have a lot more skeletons in their closets.

Mark my words ... Rubio will be president someday. He just doesn't think this is the right time to run on the ticket.

I thought Rubio should run for President. He had all the qualifications of our current leader. A stint in the State Senate, two years as a US Senator, a great orator and he has a wonderful biography.

I would think if we acknowledged all of these attributes as not only making someone qualified for President, but promoting them as the next Abe Lincoln or FDR, then Rubio would have made a stellar Post Modern President.

I cannot understand why you would not embrace this idea?

Sure there are some scandals in his closet, but Obama had these pesky problems as well. (Tony Rezco, Pastor Wright). But, hey these things can be overlooked because making sure we have diversity in the Oval office is imperative for America to succeed.

I don't support any conservative candidates. I believe in choice, gay marriage, universal healthcare. As long as pubs keep religion and social issues on the forefront, push for big Cororate perks and trash environmental regulation why would I support any of them. Why would I ever support a Tea Paety candidate like Rubio who fucked up Florida?

You are so right Genius.

Hey where are all the Tea party trolls these days? Given up?
