Lynda Bell thinks Arsenic is no big deal. by Geniusofdespair

This video is of County Commissioner Lynda Bell discussing the proposed Trump Movie Studio near the Homestead Airbase.

Lynda Bell is a bit cavalier on Arsenic cleanup at the Homestead Airbase.  She says Arsenic is naturally occurring,  that you stick a spoon in the ground and it is there.  She states that  Arsenic is just a clean up. No big deal.

Lynda, Arsenic is a class A human carcinogen. It is a big deal. Arsenic from agricultural fertilizers leaching into our drinking water aquifer should be a concern of yours. It isn't business as usual like you are saying. You just can't scrape all the bad stuff away lady. The Natural Resources Defense Council says:

"According to a 1999 study by the National Academy of Sciences, arsenic in drinking water causes bladder, lung and skin cancer, and may cause kidney and liver cancer. The study also found that arsenic harms the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as heart and blood vessels, and causes serious skin problems. It also may cause birth defects and reproductive problems."

If you consume 2 liters of water a day with Arsenic levels of 20 parts per billion you have a 1 in 250 total cancer risk.

Aside: Where did Donald Trump dig up the attorney on the video with the lavender tie?

Any way you look at it, the studio concept is better than the alternative of a full blown airport that the Homestead clan was seeking in the past. I hope and pray that all will come together to make this a reality. South Miami-Dade will become a very different place and thus start to contribute more significantly to the entire county in a very positive way. Genious and gimlete, this is something that you guys pushed as an alternative years ago so get on board and put the politics to the side for a bit.

Lynda Bell is just a pure PoS! This is just another idiotic series of anti environment, anti clean water nonsense she's been spewing. She appears to be on a constant re election bid since taking office, and I have to wonder if the parents of those school kids or children of the elderly she so often frequents realizes just how much damage this woman is trying to do to all of us.

Note to Lynda Bell: Turn off your mike and keep your mouth shut! You are an idiot - pure and simple.

I still cannot believe Braman thinks this women is "A" okay. But as someone said, maybe Braman is just as anti environment, anti clean water as she is.

Arsenic is in the tunnel material dumped on Virginia key. But that's ok there too because it's "naturally occurring" on barrier islands, so what's a little more?

I was one of those people pushing for a film studio during HABDI. I co own a business in the film industry and have for over a dozen years. There are many problems with a studio there. We did the research, not just a pipe dream. We even had Michael Putney at our home during the height of the mess to look at what our plans were.

I remember about 10 yrs ago the County let a small budget film use one of the empty hangers. It was a disaster. Our crews went there for a few days and these clueless people really screwed up what would have been a good test run.

I don't see this as viable, but lobbyists can convince the BCC of anything I truly believe.

I co own a business in the film industry. During the HABDI nonsense, we sent up a "trail balloon" for a film studio. We were actually under contract for another space in the area on the West side of US 1 when this whole thing came about. We already had plans put together for the other property and thought maybe we could use those for an alternative use of the Air Base. After months of studying (on our own, at our own expense), we realized it just wasn't going to be feasible for many reasons.

I know the County let a small film production use an empty hanger there about 8 years ago and it was a disaster. It was a combination of novice film makers and other issues.

In any event, I don't know what has changed, (other than increased arsenic levels) but speaking as someone who knows this industry and studios, I cannot see how this is going to work now. It is a pipe dream.

So many people come along with these big plans for studios, but there are so many problems and regulations filming in Dade County, I cannot see this being feasible or profitable.

Filming needs central locations for all involved and a lot of the big companies bring in their own crews & sets. This is not a "huge" job creator either.

Homestead is a bad location geographically as well, no matter how close to the turnpike.

The great DERM remediation plan is to scrape the topsoil and move it to another location.
This has been done in the farming area when land is scheduled for another use beside ag. The south Dade area is loaded with arsenic.
Shouldn't this beef be with farmers, fertilizer producers and regulators?
If DERM doesn't take it seriously and just moves it which actually intensifies the leeching because it is now more of a concentrated volume, why should we?
Maybe DERM doesn't know what they are doing on this issue a possibility.

Sorry, didn't mean to post twice. I hadn't finished my thought I must have hit send accidentally.

I also wasn't sure of the year the county lent out the space.

Pamela, unfortunately you don't have nor have ever had the resources to take on a project like this. Rather than continuIng to be the perpetual naysayer, shut up or put up.

Last anon, who said I was the only one involved? You are right, I alone could never take on the project, so there I do agree, but you mis understood what I am trying to or thought I said. At least I signed my name and didn't post "anon", "anon"! As to the rest of your nonsense, that's what it is.

Won't this studio be under water in 20 years anyway?
Won't the arsenic be under water?
These points and counterpoints seem senseless if anyone believes any of it is ever going to happen.
Mar-a-Lago to Poverty-a-Gogo does not sound like Trump. When the base is training they could film war movies otherwise forget it.
I vote cargo and warehouses as a reality show.

I was thinking about all the recent Bell posts and videos and have to wonder how she's going to do her "spin" cycle crap when she runs in 2014. It made me giggle thinking about how she's going to convince voters "arsenic" is okay and really high levels in our drinking water.

The video compilation I'd make and put on YouTube using just the past four to five commission meetings should be enough to scare away even the most "loyal" Bell fans, which I can find none other than who are being paid by her office budget.
