Lynda Bell giving Alice Pena an award. |
I read in Dan Ricker's Watchdog Report that Alice Pena is said to be running for Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis Moss's seat, like she would ever win. I think of Alice fondly as that egg lady (she sells eggs) with the crazy vendetta against environmental regulators. She is from the 8 1/2 Square Mile area and she is always attacking what was once called DERM. She single-handedly orchestrated uproars of the 8 1/2 Square Mile area for twenty years, a kind of mad operative for the radical right. Now that there is a virtual junta controlling the county and state -- that is fiercely anti-environmental at its core -- it is apparently OK to bring the crazies from the back pastures right up into the executive offices. This is how County Commissioner Lynda Bell sees Alice Pena:
“It is wonderful that once a year we get to honor that one special woman in agriculture,” stated Commissioner Bell. “I think that it’s very fitting that Alice Pena is being recognized as Miami-Dade County Farm Bureau’s Women of the Year.” Besides from being the leader of the Farm Bureau, she is a great lady that is deeply involved in her community.”Of course, everyone that has seen the zaniest film ever made, "Pink Flamingos," knows, we do have a precedent for crazy egg ladies. Here is Divine with Edie Massey the ORIGINAL, beloved, paranoid Egg Lady.

One of the untold stories (by the Herald): how the loss of suburban sprawl has decimated farmers who depended on loans from banks to keep their businesses afloat, based on the developable value of their land at boom prices. I've heard statistics that more than 50 percent of the ornamental growers in South Dade -- usually smaller farmers not represented by the Farm Bureau but nevertheless a large percentage of land owners -- are out of business since the housing market crash. Any detail, would be appreciated!
Nothing like a John Water's clip to wake you up in the morning. Thank you for not getting one of her shouting: "eggs, eggs" that gave me nightmares about eggs.
Alice Pena is a decent, hard-working woman who has fought the system and won many significant battles for her neighbors. She has earned the respect of many and would have much support if she ran for public office.
Thank you Lynda Bell, it is always good to hear from you.
One of my favorite John Waters flicks only second to POLYESTER in my book.
There is a resemblance between Divine and the Vile One, wonder if the Vile One also eats dog poop?
I’ve known Alice Pena for a long time she is a power hungry individual. All she cares about is increasing the value of that egg shack she calls home. She began courting Bell while she was running for county commission. No one in the farming community, The Farm Bureau (who endorsed Flynn) and especially Katie Edwards, would support Bell during her campaign; even though this was in her own back yard. That’s when Alice spotted her opportunity to get herself her very own, not too smart, county commissioner to control. She devised a plan to support Bell from behind the scenes promising her she would get support from the farm community (she never did). I remember she even laughed about a small campaign contribution she gave Bell saying why give more she will never win but it would be a small price.
Alice always brags about how Bell has become her puppy dog; even though Linda had to vote for rock mining in support of her best friend Torcise over Alice’s 8.5 miles. As Alice said, when she was speaking in front of the County Commission on the rock mining issue, her being there was a lost cause because she had heard this issue had already been decided by the commissioners, meaning Linda was not going to support her. Linda did promise her other things in exchange for having to vote against her, everyone knows Torcise had been very generous to her during her campaign and that he had given her thousands and thousands of dollars, she says Linda told her she had no other choice but to vote for Torcise and his company.
What is funny is that Linda thinks Alicia is loyal to her and is pushing her to run for county commission so she can have the control to rule the commission.
Typical Lynda Bell she did the same thing in Homestead she put in her own people on the dais, so she could control every vote, if her people did not vote her way or even hesitated they would feel her wrath.
That’s why she and her group of follow council members were ousted by the people of Homestead. The only good decision the people of Homestead have EVER made.
It looks like Ms. Bell is up to her old tricks she is so predictable. It’s surprising to me that after she supported the confederate flag now she is trying to get rid of Moss.
It looks like we have someone in power that is continuously showing us how she really feels.
If Pena is as diabolical as what is being said I am voting for her. Moss has been useless and recently he discovered the moonbat enviro-socio issue. He has been there far too long. New blood is needed.
I'll even vote for a Zoo Miami four-legged creature as long as they can prove residency.
GoD, why must you resort to rudeness and vulgarity when posters disagree with you? Why can't you accept that our society flourishes only when there are differences of opinion? Please try to be more tolerant of those who express diverse points if view.
When a reader says they are going to vote for someone diabolical that is not a difference of opinion. That is an example of someone being an asshole. I would hope anyone with brains would never squander a vote. Btw...I did not use the word nor do I think the woman is diabolical.
Comment #6 has presented an image of a woman who is fiendish in her use of people, places and issues to advance herself and her agenda.
It is a devilish scheme if the comment is true.
Just because someone would vote against Moss is no reason for name calling.
As for squandering votes what would one call registering to the opposition party to cast a primary ballot. Touche`
Doncha think those thousands of dollars from Torcise bought a big part of the Redland Hotel on Mowery Street in her town of Home
stead,
Has anyone looked into Alice Pena's banking history? I would not be surprised if she has a history of stepping of making any decision as long as it helps the bottom line. Is this a person we want running for county commissioner? Someone who will sell out the Everglades to further her political agenda should not be a county commissioner. (i.e. 8.5 square mile area)
