Rivals for County Commission District 5: Bruno Barreiro and State Rep. Luis Garcia. Center, Miami River Commission Chair Horacio Stuart Aguirre |
The kids were all on their mission for the stars. Each environmentally themed booth gives a kid a star if they answer a question or participate in a brief presentation. The River Commission gives out a nice medal in exchange for the sheet of stars. Some kids collect the medals throughout the years and keep them displayed proudly in their room with other awards, according to a mother I spoke to.
I did meet the son of the owner of Garcia's Seafood, Luis Garcia. Good guy. Maybe I can get some free stone crabs.

If you get free stone crabs, ask for the jumbo select.
We missed RIver Day this year (didn’t even know it was happening). Instead, we took some friends from out-of-town to the Miami Circle Park, where we were able to watch Brickellites ignore the “No Dogs” sign, boaters ignore the “Slow Speed - No Wake” signs, and headless chickens float out into Biscayne Bay. Our friends were impressed.
We also got to see the fairly new statue of Julia Tuttle that’s in Bayfront Park. It's a great work of public art, although made by a California studio. So far, it hasn’t been defaced by graffiti and the bronze orange blossoms she holds haven’t yet been broken off to be sold for scrap. Catch it while you can.
Vote for Luis Garcia for Commissioner. That dimwit Bruno Barrerio has to go. The idiot Bruno made the Motion to approve diverting over $3 BILLION to the privately owned Marlins. And Bruno is the stooge of the billboard companies who easily con him into doing whatever they want.
