The problem with searching out the lobbyists is that the casino principals have so many different variations on their names. Looks like Steve Shiver is working for Al Cardenas now, his name is all over the place with Cardenas on the State Lobbying site. Oops...according to Lobbyist Seth Gordon it is another Steve Shiver, not our former county manager. Should we trust him? Oh, let me improve upon Gimleteye's vision above - I can do better, or should I say Kim's can, can:

You'd figure with all these "so called" big name lobbyists, Genting would be getting better advice. I'll admit, I thought their initial splash into this community was well thought out, and executed. Let's face it, no one even knew how to pronounce their name, much less knew who they were and what they did. But all of the sudden, they had us all thinking this Casino Idea was a done deal. You couldn't throw a rock in this town without hitting a politician, or lobbyist, who wasn't singing their praises.
But, what do you know? What a difference a month makes (Genting is pulling the "Luther Campbell Strategy) Politicians are back-peddaling, the initial shine is wearing off of Genting's dog-and-pony show, and folks are starting to think, maybe there's some sort of scam going on here.
Was a community need to have a responsible, thought out, rational discussion about the expansion of Gambling. Not just a bunch of fancy pictures, and tall tales, while they try to slip it in our Kardashian.
A Resort Casino may be a good thing, if done right. But let's slow down, take a breath, gather our thoughts and do it right.

The NEW MIAMI FORUM is planning a series of community discussions about gambling in Florida. First event not scheduled yet and speakers still being vetted, but here is a preliminary draft of what will be in the invitation:
While the “YES Casino” people and the “NO Casino” people talk past each other with slogans and arguable “facts”
The New Miami Forum Presents
“SLOW CASINOS”
A Series of Programs Designed to Help Miami Residents Understand the Facts Before the Florida Legislature Commits the Miami Community to What Could be a Risky Adventure into the Vast Unknown
Initial Assumptions:
Miami already has a significant gambling industry and it is not reasonable to believe that new casinos by themselves would harm the fabric of the community.
The existing gambling industry should be allowed to compete fairly with new gambling facilities through parity of taxation and equality in other forms of regulation.
The Florida Legislature should not presume to know the optimum number, size, hours of operation or other elements of the regulation of casinos. These matters should be left to the proposed Gaming Commission working in concert with local governments and local residents (possibly by referenda) while allowing free market conditions to prevail to the maximum extent possible.
Development projects of the scale being discussed would certainly generate some amount of positive economic activity and create jobs. But until an independent economic analysis is conducted based on full knowledge of the nature, scope and details of the development plan(s) including the extent of local government support in the form of dedication of public right-of-way and other forms of assistance, the scale of these benefits and the off-setting costs will not be known.
There are no parallel situations anywhere in the world that can give Miamians any meaningful guidance as to the potential positive or negative impacts of (today’s version of) the Casino Gambling Legislation
While a number of respected Miami residents have been hired to represent the interests of the New Casino Industry, the Miami Community-at-Large has no such representation to investigate or validate the representations of the Casino Industry and reach conclusions based upon the best interests of the Miami community.
The New Miami Forum’s “SLOW CASINOS” programs will seek to be of service to the vast middle ground between the extremes of “YES Casinos” and “NO Casinos”
If thats Kim Kardasians brain I wouldn't mine her bouncing a few thoughts off me......Speaking of thoughts why are elected Officials like Mr. Curbelo and DLPs allowed to lobby while "serving" (themselves at our expense) in public office? There ought to be a law aginst that too, G.O.D. please embark on this crusade!
