Commissioner Moss Wants to Set the Record Straight. By Geniusofdespair

The following is a summary of the comment that I attempted to place on your website that corrected several inaccuracies in your article:

1. My salary from the Richmond-Perrine Optimist Club did not increase on my 2010 financial disclosure form due to an increase in how much I was paid, but was the result of the fact that  27 pay periods were recorded in 2010, rather that the normal 26 pay periods in other years. The increase was due to the extra pay period being counted. The fact is that I have not received a salary increase from the Optimist Club in over a decade.

2. I have no idea what the Crime Gopher It, Inc. is; I have never done any work for that group or for Commissioner Sally Heyman.  (GENIUS - Sally Heyman's page 2 was attached as Moss's Page 2)

3. It would be an honor to work for Miami-Dade College, however I have never taught nor worked in any capacity at that fine institution in my life. (GENIUS - Sally Heyman's page 2 was attached as Moss's Page 2)

4. If you want to know what the Richmond-Perrine Optimist Club does, you can simply google the agency. We have provided a wide variety of social services, youth sports and other positive activities in the south dade community since the early 1970's, during a time when very little similar services existed in the area. The agency built a Youth Activity Center in a disadvantaged neighborhood in south dade through the financial support of the state, county and private donations through We Will Rebuild: we provide after school care and parenting services to children and parents residing in public housing; we provide an alternative education program and counseling services to at risk youth; we provide a youth sports program including Pop Warner Football, cheerleading, a basketball and baseball program; we provide a college exploration program taking disadvantaged teens to visit different colleges and universities in order to let them know that they can go to college if they work at it; we provide a work experience program for unemployed youth from disadvantaged communities; in the past we have provided summer jobs programs where 300-400 poor youngsters in south dade were employed, painted and fixed up the homes of senior citizens, provided thanksgiving baskets and Christmas toy giveaways to needy families and the list could go on.

As a County Commissioner I have always attempted to conduct myself in an honorable manner and take seriously what is said about me, particularly when the facts are not correct. I am requesting that my response be published and that you do the honorable thing and correct the record, so that any faulty perceptions or suspicions that your article created can be addressed.

Sincerely,

Commissioner Dennis C. Moss

So some government hack attached a page of Sally Heyman's financial report to Dennis Moss's financial report? You must be kidding me!

Aren't these financial reports maintained by and copies provided by the Elections Department? If so, Elections Supervisor Lester Sola should be held accountable for this act of incompetence.

Also, Moss was the County Commission Chairman for 2009-10 so he bears some responsibility when a county agency messes up county records even when those records are his own.

Good for you commissioner Moss. It took Kojones to come on this blog and entertain so much malice intent.

I removed you for spelling errors...oh and because you annoyed me. Read back one post and tell me how I throw everyone under the bus.

As far as Moss is concerned I skimmed through public records and didn't say very much else. So knock it off.

and reader above, you might check your spelling too...and your grammar...entertain malice intent? I hope you don't work for the County, oh that's right you do.

This Elections Office is just one of the poorly managed county offices. Lets name a few The Tax Assessors Office, The 311 Line, and some county commissioners offices also Community Redeveloopment Agencies all 9 of them, I am not surprise the Elections office is giving bad information.

This is a lesson that these county offices need to be investigated by the federal government.

Commissioner Moss you need to call that office out. However, some of this might be coming from some of your colleagues on the dais. Don't quote me on thissss.

Genius,I think it's very honorable for Commissioner Moss to "set the record straight" and for you to allow him to clarify any misperceptions. I have followed Commissioner Moss' political career and he is one of the few ethical elected officials in the county commission. Thank you Genius, you are a fair blogger...

THANK YOU Comm Moss. You are an honorable man in revealing the correct info on the recent blog. It's nice to know you read Eye-On Miami; In addition to the excellent activities carried on in
the Richmond Perrine Optimist Club,
we're hoping you will become our
Enviornmental Commissioner as was
former Katy Sorenson.

I get that Commissioner Moss would care that Sally Heyman would be on his report but reporting accurately that he had a $3,373 DIFFERENCE/Increase in a 5 year time span that is not anything anyone cares about.

The real thing people care about is the outside employment and its relationship to County Funds -- i.e. Jesca for Rolle and the Y for Seijas being two examples -- that Moss got a raise or didn't get a raise is not important. In fact, he should have gotten a raise in 5 years at any job.

The salary increase? He is worried about that? Why didn't he explain why the Club gets millions while he works there? Most non-profits are hard pressed for money. I don't care about his salary amount we care that he gets a salary from an entity getting county funds. I don't think you said anything that hurt Moss except including the funding his employer received by the County.

Looks like all Moss's staff are busy writing now.

LOL.

Someone ought to look at all his contracts with the county. Or maybe there aren't any filed for his activities on county properties. Does he have rent payment recp'ts for his non-profits locations?

That is not his staff... It is too early for most of them to be at a computer.

Commissioner Moss:

What services do you provide to the optimist club. Why do you get a salary thee?

Anonymous said...

Sorry: "there" not thee.

What about this idea? Let's take the director of the incompetent department who bungled Moss's records, Lester Sola at Elections, and appoint him to a bigger department in charge of all procurement, HR, and facilities.

Gimenez just promoted Sola yesterday. What was he thinking?

So Lets See The Private Corporation Richmond Perrine Inc. uses Public Property and Tax Monies to run it's Private Businesses...."Between March 16, 2007 and  July 21, 2011 --  the County paid the Richmond Perrine Optimist Club  about  $2,300,582.  I guess that more than covers Moss's salary. Exactly what does this club do?"G. O. D.
Moss is paid for being in their pocket????
What Moss failed to Include/Correct, 1, 2, 3, 4, is What Moss does, what Moss's duties? What exactly is Moss's Job Description working at Richmond Perrine Inc.?
With all of the Billions in Public Taxpayer Monies, General Obligation Bond monies, and Public Land paid for by the Taxpayer, why then are there still FEEs being charged to the taxpayer for Services, Programs, Activities by MOSS's Richmond Perrine Inc. and other Corporations?? The Registration FEEs are for every season, every Program, along with Monthly, Quartley Fees that are added ontop of Registration FEES... Where do the Millions of Taxpayer dollars go?? To Overhead? UMSA has a Miami Dade County Parks and Recreation Department, has a Miami Dade County Cultural Arts Department, has a Miami Dade County Public School and State of Florida Jobs program, Federal CRA funding, etc., if MOSS's Richmond Perrine Inc. is doing all of this with taxpayer Monies and Properties then what do we need the Miami Dade County Departments, State of Florida Departments, Federal Departments for?????? Close down these Government Departments, Give the taxpayers back their Tax Monies, Public Land, and Stop with GOB, let the MOSS Richmond Perrine Inc. buy their private properties, pay taxes, and still get funds from the taxpayer by way of User of Services FEEs.
Or simply stop Charging Registration FEEs, Program FEEs, Activity FEEs, now and for the future. The Taxpayers already paid or are going to pay (GOB monies) for the Public Parks and Public Buildings being used by the MOSS's Richmond Perrine Inc. This would also include others like the Young Mens Christian Association of Greater Miami, and Sports - Clubs, Leagues, Optimist, etc. Operating Business Corporations on Public Property/Land using taxpayer monies and still Charging FEEs.....

I don't know what to make of this information you have provided reader. Commissioner Moss is no longer an officer of the Richmond Perrine optimist club. I do know I heard Carlos Gimenez speak at lunch today and his remedy for the APPEARANCE of conflicts is for County Commissioners to be paid a decent wage and NOT have any outside employment. The jobs many Commissioners have, pose a problem for the average Joe looking on. Although everything might be A-Ok... It is hard to distinguish whether entities get funding because they hire a commissioner. I don't know the answer except doing what Gimenez proposes.

Why does commissioner Moss not support term limits? Moss has served the district well, however it time for a new vision of the entire county, new energy, that only a new commissioner could bring to the county commission. Mr Moss is you care for this county you will support term limits and approve all recommendations of the charter review. If not, I will, vote to defeat you next election.
