Hialeah Incompetence? Guest Blog by Hialeahhomegrown

The City of Hialeah's famed Milander Pool has been in disrepair for over six months. This long hot summer -- there were no summer swimming classes, senior exercise classes or swim team practices.

Yes, there has been no summer access to Milander Pool for anyone who wanted to cool down from the summer heat.

Why not? Because the pool has been under repair. How did the problems at the pool become so large that they could not be completed in time for summer programs? Ask the geniuses at Hialeah City Stall a.k.a. Hialeah City Hall.

And this is "The city of progress?"

Thank you Mayor Julio Robaina, acting mayor Carlos Hernandez and acting Council President Isis Garcia-Martinez. How did your Parks and Recreation Supervisors not deal with Milander Pool's problems in a timely manner? Six months is a joke.

Genius said: I called the Mayor's office they didn't know why it took so long to do the pool. They said call Parks and Recreation. Parks and Recreation (Andy) said it was a large project didn't know how long it was supposed to have taken - he told me to call the pool itself. He seemed miffed that I said it was taking too long. There was no answer at Milander. I called the Clerk, to ask how long it said it would take in whatever the Commission passed. He said I would would have to do a public records request...like David Concepcion, you just can't look in the records for me? I don't like every question being treated as a public records request so they can garner YOUR name and take forever. You should be able to ask a simple question of a government. He said he can't give me information only records. He then proceeded to give me INFORMATION, he said the Mayor was the City Manager so we know the buck stops with the Mayor. This is the kind of 'helpful' City Clerk Concepcion is, a friend did a public records request asking for the cell phone contact list of one of the Councilmen. Concepcion sent her a contact list for the Hialeah City Council - that can be found online and he knew that wasn't what she wanted. He is stalling and appears to be a smart-ass. Other clerks call me when they are not sure of what I want or it is not clear. Nobody seems to know what is going on over there in Hialeah...I am waiting on one of the Councilman's aides to return my call. It should be long.

folks at Hialeah seem to be playing a game of "chicken" only they are the ones who will be left without jobs after this fall's election.
so the kids of Hialeah payed the price and had no summer swim lessons. what a tragedy.

I'm beginning to see a trend with City's beginning with the letter "H" in Miami Dade - Hudstead & Hialeah!

Incompetence, greed, insider deals, not to mention the total lack of transparency & accounting. and, in my opinion, seemingly misuse of Federal, State and Local funds (I said seemingly)!

I have been living in Hialeah since 1968 and this city has gone through many changes both good and bad. At this moment you could honestly say our city is in a sad state when the acting mayor's agenda is focussed on legalizing efficiencies. Our city has enough problems without this taking place. The city has been sued on various occasions and lost millions thanks to the efficiencies here. With these funds alone the city's much needed pool would not be in the horrific shape it is today! Hopefully after the elections our new Mayor Rudy Garcia ( my prediction) will start putting the city back together. Itrene I applaud your comments and concern about the city and I am sure that you too will find comfort in having a home grown elected official in city hall soon!

That's the leadership the county would have had, if Robaina (TBO) had been elected.

It's probably waiting for Hialeah inspectors to show up. A two week job can take months in Hialeah for that very reason. Even when they do show up, it's just to say your paperwork is wrong and you need to pay additional fees. Then you make multiple trips to "Building", Zoning" and "Streets. Pay more fees. Wait for the inspection. Then you are told that the City doesn't have the Manufacturer's Specifications on the products being used. So, then you have to go to the Contractor and ask for the paperwork (for another fee) and return to all three offices for more premits. Then the inspector shows up and argues that your paperwork is still not in order. No wonder most of the private homeowners in Hialeah avoid permitting and do the work illegally.

The City of Progress has been like a painful disease that just wont heal since Julio Robaina took over the City in 2006. The lies have multiplied and the financial blunders have left the city in a state of confusion. Public records requests have been a problem also since David Concepcion took over as to not allow the public see the truth. He was the Mayors Aide and then magically transfered to the City Clerks office as to help hide the truth. Then given Civil Service status to protect him as his former boss would be leaving for the County. This is an outrage. Also just coming to my attention was that his own Mother ( concepcions mother ) was appointed a position as a building manager to an elderly facility to help garner the votes by the elderly population. THIS IS DISGUSTING...
