City of Miami District 2 Race. By Geniusofdespair

There are enough candidates in this race and you can hear them all tomorrow at the Downtown Bay Forum luncheon. The Moderator will be Dr. Sean Foreman, Dept. of Government, Barry University.

The luncheon forum begins at 11:30 am at Wolfson Auditorium at Temple Israel, 137 NE 19th Street. Free parking available. To reserve, call Annette Eisenberg (305)757-3633 Fax (305)754-2015. Member with reservation, $22. Non-member or member without reservation, $26. Membership $30. Be sure you make a reservation.

Through June 30th (city of Miami could report more often if you ask me):

Marc Sarnoff has raised $377,628 so far and he has spent $105,580.57.
Kate Callahan has raised $51,420 and spent $43,174.
Donna Milo has raised $56,025 and spent $9,628.
Michelle Niemeyer has raised $60,340 and spent $47,323.
Williams Armbrister has raised 0 and spent $20.

I decided to rate these candidates by what I think is important. I did a quick check for spelling errors on their websites to see who uses spell check best:
Armbrister - Many errors. Here is one, conserns instead of concerns.
Callahan - Accessiblity instead of Accessibility.
Milo - None.
Sarnoff - Should overdevelopment be one word? My Spell check says 'no'.
Michelle Niemeyer - Spelled charrette 'charette'. Acceptable but not the preferred spelling.

My conclusion: Williams Armbrister does not know how to use spell-check, he had 6 errors on one page and his headings included "champaign" message. The others did appear to use spell check. I wish some of my readers would be so vigilant.

Spelling? That is how you rate them. I will vote for Donna Milo then.

My vote is between Donna Milo and Michelle Niemeyer. I can’t support the incumbent and out of principle; I could never vote for Kate Callahan, because of her association to political hack, Vanessa Brito.

I like Vanessa. She did us a solid on the Seijas recall. I can't thank her enough for that. I have met all the candidates except for Williams and they all have impressive backgrounds. May the best one win!

I have met Kate, Michelle and Donna thus far and all three are very nice but I was most impressed by Donna Milo's command of the issues.
Marc need not apply.

Vanessa did a solid one on Siejas all right; by riding on the coat tails of Braman and the people’s hatred of Carlos Alvarez, whom I still believe is a descent guy. I lost all respect for Britto after what she did for a few dollars against the Good Julio Robaina in district seven. I know you think differently Genius and I truly don’t mean any disrespect, but Vanessa Britto is a political hack at the disposal of the highest bidder… I know one day you will see things as I do on her…

Give it a rest on Vanessa. This post isn't about Vanessa.

This is a case of one political hack jealous of another.

Please EOM said...

I would love to see EOM do a write up on Sarnoff, and all the inconsistencies, maneuverings, lies, money grabs, and broken promises. The green, grass roots candidate, Sarnoff now supports over-development, visual pollution, personally ignores the city code, put unqualified people in the CRA with excessive salaries, gave away $10 million to Tibor Hollo (check out the $$ contributed by his companies to Sarnoff's campaign), spends $250K to re-do the mini-park across the street from his house and next to the Sarnoff circle, parcels out money from the Coconut Grove BID to his allies and toadies, kept from the BID Board the fact that their exec director received 2 complaint letters of abusive behavior from prior employees - and swept it under the rug.... should I continue...?

"there instead of the correct their.." Genius check your grammar.

Don’t continue, overkill… you sound like you work for an opponents campaign. Poor taste, little credibility and I don’t support Sarnoff.

This is why I particularly hate this behavior: It is woman against woman. Men don't throw their hate around in the public arena, belittling each other, they have more class. Act like the men and undercut each other behind the scenes. You are making women look bad and I don't think it is worthy of you gals calling each other political hacks. I know who you all are anyway.

yes if there is one place age hits hard it is with Homophones. Never had a problem when I was younger. It is not a spelling error it is cognitive -- you know the word, but when typing fast you pick the other one.

We have the dictionary police on this blog now?

why are you censoring the comments???

We all deep down inside favor the outsider in most contests. However once these outsiders get elected they become part of the insiders, the group of people we dislike the most in politics. Its very difficult to pick someone to replace Sarnoff, not because he is unreplaceable but, because we are not to sure about what these other office seekers really stand for. I realize that Sarnoff is not well liked by many people and the topic of many comments on the internet. However,I just wonder why is Sarnoff such a bad guy that he gets such a hard look at and the rest of the commissioners get free pases for more or less doing the same thing Sarnoff is alledged to have done.. Why not hold each and every elected city offical to the same standard that you apply to Sarnoff. Additionally, all the comments of Sarnoff's alledged criminal activity over the last few years has amounted to nothing, not even a parking ticket. I wonder if the mayor could please send one of his police officers or maybe the SWAT team over to Sarnoff's house so we can get our pound of flesh for all these alledged criminal acts with a nice big illegal parking ticket.....

So there are three viable candidates running against Sarnoff. Two from the Grove and one from the Upper East Side.

It is time for a new face.

Kate Callahan, Michelle Niemeyer and Donna Milo all have good resumes. Niemeyer and Milo both have experience.

I have met Michelle Niemeyer, Donna Milo, Kate Callahan, Williams, and Sarnoff. At forums Michelle is very impressive, so is Donna. Although Donna is a strong opponent, Michelle Niemeyer has the strong voice to really make a change in District 2. I am voting for Michelle Niemeyer, She's the only one that asked me what I want in the District to change. None of the other candidates have asked me what my concerns are as a business owner, father, and resident of District 2. I strongly recommend you help Michelle Niemeyer get elected as the next City of Miami Commissioner in District 2.
