The Miami Herald Editorial Board on the Homestead Housing Authority Meeting. By Geniusofdespair

Remember the Herald Editorial Board didn't know they ALSO voted to hold only 6 meetings a year (less sunshine) rather than 12 and that they had a land swap in the works, that only 1 Board Member knew about, when they crafted this Editorial. Still their opinion piece today agreed with my post of yesterday that the Homestead Housing Authority Board is dysfunctional:
"Wait a minute — the members of the Homestead Housing Authority’s board, save one woman taking her role as public servant seriously, would rather give the executive director a dubious $35,000 raise instead of spending $1,000 first to make sure there are no conflicts of interest involved?

Worse, they vote to prevent a board colleague from requesting a formal opinion from the agency’s attorney on the matter. And even worse than that, they want to deliberate in private, in the deep shade, in this the state of the Sunshine Law.

Meanwhile, you’ll need a PowerPoint flow chart to keep track of all the connectivity between the executive director, Oscar Hentschel, a member of the board, and an assortment of family members."
Problem is these kind of meetings go on every day. If someone wasn't there to ask the right questions -- Lois Jones -- you wouldn't be reading this. And the Lois Jones types are kicked off boards for being disruptive. You should have seen how the other members ganged up on her - especially Ian Iglesias who knew nothing and made the suggestion they negotiate the salary increase out-of-the-sunshine. He didn't even know what the housing agency did so he should have been a spectator his first meeting, but he was quick to attack Lois Jones at every turn, as if he had marching orders to do it. It was awful. The Herald said:
"...this much is clear: These board members are conflicted up to their ears."

Hudstead has officially won the race to the bottom. The runner ups are anyone who voted for Bell as Dist. 8 Commissioner (immediate past Hudstead Mayor), who is also in way over her head (just talk to her staff)!

I think you are right Ian was put on to neutralize Lois.

Any thing Bateman does will be akways tied to money.

Changing the board is for his back account

Eye On Miami broke the Homestead Housing Board story first.

It is nice to know the Herald is finding story ideas on the blogs...

Now if the Herald Editorial Board can read the story and chart showing 737 City of Miami employees who make over $100,000 per year BEFORE adding in their pension benefits a great editorial might result.

The herald story came out first on Wednesday night. I only stayed for the first part of the meeting.

look at this -- an email from the chairman of the Homstead Housing Authority to their attorney...where was she when it was happening -- voting AGAINST IT:

In light of the recent article in the Miami Herald, I would like an opinion regarding the statements made by the reporter regarding the Board of Directors conflict of interest immediately.

Regards,

Audelia Martinez

The common thread is that these board memebers were all appointed by Mayor STEVE BATEMAN. He has been around long enough to know the connections and who is who. It would be interesting to see how the names came before him fo r consideration and who was not approved for appointmenet from among the applicants.... were the vacancies ever advertised ???

Homestead has always been a cesspool.

Audelia only thing the attorney should have is your confession or your whistleblowing on your coconspirators to defraud the federal government be the first to rollover or enjoy your extended stay in Atlanta Fed.

Think about your head but dont be duped, the other guys will work deals. trust me!!

Mayor Bateman and his cohorts on the Council and several boards need to go but who will step forward to be a Mayoral challenger ?

I want to know what Federal Agency
overlooks the Homestead Housing Authority??? HUD?? and how can they not step in and clean up this currupted Board, and lets not forget that the Director needs to be also removed, is clear that he was put in that position by the Board, for their own gain.

It is so clear, Berrones and the Homestead Housing Director are partners, and Mayor Bateman and David are partners too???
Talk about conflict.....

Mayor Bateman is all about paying back his supporters. He is so blatantly obvious such as in this case.
The question is how much longer will Katherine Fernandez Rundle allow this to continue?
Audelia Martinez, Arturo Deleon, David Berones and Oscar Hentschel were all appointed and approved by Bateman and his Homestead city council. Bateman and Berones are thick as thieves yet Bateman was not aware that Berones sister and brother were married to and employed other board members? Steve Bateman knew and never thought he would get caught.

The entire board needs to be replaced and Oscar Hentscel should be fired.

Follow the money back to Bateman. It should not be difficult. He is a throw back to the Henry Milander type of pol, if you know what I mean.

He would sell his mothers soul for a dollar

According to the Miami herald article "Oscar Hentschel says he doesn’t need experience in housing, because his financial background has enabled him to cut thousands of dollars from the authority’s budget and improve its financial health"
The question is he cut them from the budget and try to put them where??? Yes... in his pocket...
Really... katherine Rundle, HUD, and whoever else oversees these government agencies need to wake up and take some action............

Hentschel you are not qualified to run the Homestead Housing Authority.. you may know how to work the numbers, and that is the scary part!!!
It is obvious that you were given that position by your friends, if you are a bit smart and have some dignity, do the right thing and resign, while you can, dont wait until the Feds come for you...
you are not qualified and do not belong there.....Homestead Housing Authority needs a director,
not a puppet..............

You can relate Steve Bateman and David Berrones to Myer lanskey and Pablo Escobar.
