County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson has Found the Light! By Geniusofdespair

I think this vote officially removes Audrey Edmonson from the ranks of the unreformable majority. The loudest yes in the room: Lynda Bell. The only "NO" to move the Urban Development Boundary (UDB) for the Homestead Speedway application was cast by County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson.

Very interesting development. Commissioner Edmonson is coming around from the dark side without Natacha Seijas to whisper in her ear. Apparently she is reformable!

This application wasn't as horrible as most -- as Commissioner Moss points out in this video -- i.e. not setting a precedent -- but environmentalists disagree. They say that with this application there are concerns about loss of agricultural lands, proximity to environmentally-sensitive areas, and interfering with long-term planning efforts currently in the works. Also the 'need' is not there. We can usually count on Moss for a good vote on the UDB, not today.

Anyone else bothered by Linda Bell's more than enthusiastic, loud yes to move the line? Once again THANK YOU AUDREY EDMONSON!

Guarantee take this to the bank: whatever zoning "purpose" the UDB change was sold as, will be changed. Adding seats and concessions to the Speedway? Not a chance. The facility is basically bankrupt. It would never have been built except for the outright theft of tens of millions of county money (ours). You can count on some other hare brained scheme to use up the land. Another example of county commissioners "too busy compounding zeros to check the math."

...and you can bet that once again, the taxpayers in Homestead are gonna get hosed.

Linda Bell is a very nice lady and I think she has a good heart, however, she is surrounded by garbage- Beginning with Jose Luis Castillo, his wife who works in Bell's district office and worst of all Eddy Borrego who is her chief of staff at Castillo's doing-
Eddy is his own worst enemy and sooner or later will bring shame to bell--Castillo still takes his orders from Seijas--and Eddy is his little (big) spy. Eddy is the deranged person in Bell's office and until she realizes that and gets rid of him and Castillo's wife she will never really be her own person---

we need to seriously start electing commisioners who will protect our local environment and national parks( formar comm sorenson), but finally commisioner edmonson votes no which is shocking to me.

Oh yeah Audrey gets it. How about this was a fake vote to get cheap publicity?

Commissioner Edmonson has been good for us in the UES of Miami. She has been supportive of local issues to the extent that she can while being a County Commissioner. We can only hope that our City Commissioner sees the light, too! Funny, how when a Commissioner votes the "right" way there are those skeptics who see some sinister reason. A vote is a vote and while Commissioner Bell and the rest voted "YES" to move the UDB, Commissioner Edmonson voted "NO" and that's what counts. These non-precedent setting "yes" votes to move the UDB enable that proverbial camel to enter the tent just a smidgen more - me thinks we are well past the nose!

Commissioner Edmonson is the Chairman of the County Infrastructure and Land Use Committee. It meets on July 13th to vote on Commissioner Bruno Barrerio's proposal to let City's Opt-Out of the County Sign Code. Many voters oppose the proliferation of billboards and LED billboards.

Norman Braman sent a letter to Comm Edmonson and to Barrerio telling them to vote No. Braman wants the County Sign Code to govern.

It is crucial that this legislation not pass in committee.

How did she vote on the Lowe's application?

Couple of yes votes and a couple of no votes. She is confused.

If Audrey Edmonson had a brain in her head she would aggressively fight any attempt to move the UDB into the Everglades. Edmonson needs urban infill. She needs investment money going into her urban neighborhoods. If she keeps voting to allow investments on the Everglades she is not only hurting her constituents but she is being stupid.

Do you not know how to read? Audrey is a hero with this one.

We all know how to read.

No commissioner should ever be called a "hero" for using commonsense and coming to an obvious conclusion.

No urban commissioner should ever vote to either encourage suburban sprawl or vote to pave the Everglades National Park. Just stating the obvious.

GIMLETEYE IS RIGHT WHEN HE SAYS:

"YOU CAN COUNT ON SOME 'BARE BRAINED IDEA SCHEME TO USE UP THE
LAND" TRY SOME MID- WEST INDIAN
TRIBES SEEKING "CASINO"

That is interesting about a casino on that land... Think about it... Put a casino, a race track, a few hotels and an airport near by and u have the entire package ---if Turkey Point behaves.

I donT believe for a second that the airport scheme has gone away.

Of course Edmonson is now opposing changes to the UDB for some political reason. But who cares why she is doing it? She implied she will oppose any future attempt to move the UDB.

That's 1 down, and 12 to go. (Or 6 to go because we just need a majority.)

"I donT believe for a second that the airport scheme has gone away."

It hasn't and interests are still encroaching in the crash zones around the Air Base. It's just an inch by inch grab, not an out in the open one.

The issue is Audrey Edmonson. As a commissioner of urban communities and as the commissioner for several very poor ghettos she should NEVER have voted to expand the County's western development boundaries. She should always promote urban infill. Investment money needs to be spent in her district and NOT used to pave the Everglades.

Commissioners should stop pandering to other commissioners. Sometimes they have vote to benefit all the residents.

Can't we celebrate anything readers? Your cynicism makes me shudder. Don't you have faith in the inherent goodness of County Commissioners??

I know pretty funny. Seriously let's hope we can hold on to 5 of them. I don't think we can count on that 1/3 block anymore.

I have spoken with Edmonson several times and she adamantly opposes any UDB push. Whether she is looking for political clout or truly sees the harm in pushing the boundary, I cannot say. She told me she would vote against this application and she did. While she is no Katy, it looks like she's the best we've got right now.

alright, edmonson. she did the right thing. can i just say that monestime is a huge disappointment?

Thank you Commissioner Edmonson. You did a good thing.

Let's hope Edmonson and Monestime don't vote to allow another 200 LED billboards in the County.
