Only Wayne Rosen, the Lynda Bell hater and often partner with Lennar, gave as much. The guy Benjamin Leon of Kendall Holdings owns Leon Medical Center and gave big to Lincoln Diaz Balart and and the Republican party of Florida in the past. That is sort of odd since the Diaz Balart's were in Robaina's corner in the Mayor's race. Here is what Miami Today says about Leon's Medical Centers:
The company has grown into a leading health care provider for Medicare recipients with more than 33,000 enrolled. With two new centers recently opening its doors, for a total of seven top-notch medical facilities, the focus now is on continuing to provide cost-efficient, quality care despite the potential cuts HMOs face under the proposed health care reform. -12/24/2009So why the money to Gimenez?

It is the best democracy money can buy. The Roberts SC says so.
Or maybe Leon is trying to land the County employee healthcare contract with their low cost HMO plan. It wouldn't be a popular move for County employees but the County's taxpayers probably would approve.
It would make a great expansion site - given Leon's new affiliation with FIU's med school. The site is also just a few miles from Baptist's new West Kendall Hospital, another affiliate of FIU's med school.
Because there is an expectation of a significant return on his investment. Something's in play somewhere and will eventually be clear.
G.o.D.,
I hate to say it, but I said this awhile back to you and I'm glad you've done more research. Look near Kendall drive and you'll find another UDB project. All the major developers with interest OUTSIDE the UDB supported Gimenez.
Sorry but that's bad news for all of us.
Leon Medical Centers was sold a couple of years ago for over $400 million cash, but Benjamin Leon and his son (who's an architect) have a management contract with the company that now owns LMC, and they have to continue expanding the centers -- that is continuing to build new centers. Naurally, in agreement with the previous Anon, I believe there is an expectation of service involved in this generous "donation." Anyone who knows the Leons, knows that this is a fact.
The fix is in.
quid pro quo Clarice. Quid pro quo.
The Leon Family gave about $100,000.00 to Robaina, through the campaign account, and the "third party" groups like the horrible accountability project. All they did was cover, but, Gimenez has a record of voting against even his biggest supporters, so, it comes down to whether the proposal is in the best interests of the County, or not... Time will tell, but, past performance is a good indicator of future performance..
