Hialeah Julio Robaina skipped out on yet another forum. By Geniusofdespair
Hialeah Julio did not attend the Miami Voice debate last night in Miami Lakes. Note: he did attend the LBA debate...the only one I know of that he attended.
The LBA cracks me up. Endorse a candidate, without a screening process and then hold a forum. Hummm, yeah, there is a forum that wont be stacked. Wouldn't the forum have served as a great public screening process? Of course, but that would have cost time on the money train for their boy JR. Remember, its not about process (they have worked hard to dismantle it - formerly known as DCA and DERM). Its about profit over people and short term (misperceived) gain over vision.
Why should he attend? It only hurts his campaign to do so. He polls high right now and that can only change if his negatives get highlighted by subjecting himself to scrutiny. He knows that the Miami Voice folks see through him and he won't get their backing or votes anyway, so why open himslef up to tough questions. It's so simple -- follow the Rick Scott model vis-a-vis newspaper editorial boards -- stay hidden and don't talk to those who you don't think you can get on your side anyway, and while you may not improve your poll numbers, you likely won't hurt them either.
Don't be so sure of that. 30% should be good enough to get him to a runoff vs. one other candidate (likely Gimenez). In that race he only has to present himself as a strong leader of Hialeah that took on the unions and took concessions when they wouldn't negotiate (his version of the facts, of course) vs. Gimenez never having been more than a glorified fireman (he'll conveniently ignore Gimenez' time as a city manager) and part of an ineffective, messy BCC.
In that race, with the backing of the LBA and Hispanic Radio, he could get 51%.

Robaina is tied to the hip to the LBA.

Robaina peaks at 30%. While that might be enough to be #1 in the primary, it will not be enough to carry him through the General Election.
He'll lose the General 65-35.
Last Anon,
