Eddie Lewis has thrown his hat in the ring for County Mayor. By Geniusofdespair

Eddie Lewis is registered to run for Miami Dade County Mayor. His filing documents are not yet posted but an Eddie Lewis did run for Property Appraiser couple of years ago. This brings us to 16 candidates but only 3 are considered viable. With Hialeah Julio Robiana getting exposed to bad stuff every day in the Miami Herald -- like today on the front page, he is not viable AT ALL anymore. It is down to Carlos Gimenez and Marcelo Llorente. Maybe Jose "Pepe" Cancio has a slight chance.

As for Hialeah Julio, 1) why is he making $216,000 in salary and other benefits? The Governor got $132,932 in 2009. 2) Why is he involved in shadow banking? It appears Former Mayor Alex Penelas, also bred in Hialeah politics, is also involved in these banking deals. The Herald said:

Kenneth Thomas, an independent Miami bank industry expert, said it is not unusual for a “shadow-banking system” to operate in any community, where people turn to family and friends for loans when they cannot get one from a bank, credit union or even a payday lender. But Thomas said he has never heard of a politician ever acting like a banker, lending money to his constituents.

As for Julio and his wife Raiza (who he blames for his shadow banking) do they even live in Hialeah? A few years ago they plunked down almost $1,000,000 on a posh Penthouse, "Green Diamond" Miami Beach oceanfront condo. His wife got a $500,000 mortgage on it from - you guessed it - US Century Bank in 2007. Hialeah Julio takes his homestead in Hialeah on 10th Avenue but does he live there? This guy is no more suited for Mayor than I am.

Robaina seems as crooked as it gets. The Herald reports he is being investigated by multiple government agencies. Voters should give this clown a pass.

The article also mentions Penellas. I want to know how these Hialeah politicians have so much money to make these loans in the first place.

I think I can safely say, if the majority of the County voters think what goes on in Hialeah and all these back door deals are just dandy - just wait until they hit the County Hall piggy bank, harder than they already have been.

I would also like to suggest, just to save what's left of Miami Dade County and our tax Dollars - let Hialeah form their own County and leave the rest of us alone.

His salary at Hialeah is more like $260,000.00. His pension will be $150,000.00 per year, for life, for only 14 years of service as an elected official. I guess we can change Hialeah City Hall to the Unofficial Shadow Bank of Hialeah, with Julio Robaina as the Bentley driving CEO!!!

It's called loan snarling. And if we didn't have a cheap and honest lottery, we'd have bolita, too.

Nice work on digging into Robaina's residency issues. I have only seen the issue on your blog.

It's reporting like this that will hopefully earn you the Sun Sentinel best blog award. I voted for you every day.

I lived in Hialeah in the 40's and 50's and we had a multi-term mayor named Henry Milander who was a butcher at his own meat market on Palm Drive. He served the voters mighty fine as well as his customers at his meat market. There weren't any ponzi schemes, "thank God" going on in that day: no shadow banking, (not even thought of) We had a civil town To think today with all the Hialeah Politicans and their shady
reputations, what in the hell has
been going on since then??
None other than a heafty "Banana Republic" came to Dade County

I just found out that Robaina actually was born in New Jersey. More and more, his resume begins to look like that of Tony Suprano. Loan Sharking, Tax Ivasion, Cash Deals, Unregulated banking, back-door deals, illegal gambling. Why is this guy even in office???

Penelas, Carlos Alvarez (a Penelas man), Raul Martinez, Kendrick Meek, Julio "Hialeah" Robaina, Marco Rubio, David Rivera... these guys are some of the crooks in the pockets of US Century Bank. I know they're not the "only ones" who are part of the Pino posse, but they are the crooks that have run our community to disaster. In fact, it was Penelas the first responsible one for making the Pino/Cancela/Barreto trio very wealthy. It all began with the airport consignment contracts he granted Sergio Pino. And he has the gall to run for mayor? They just want one of them in place to collect the PAYOLA from the Miami-Miami Beach tunnel, the deal that Braman -- with his sponsorpship of the recall -- has screwed for them!

I think Robaina should pass on mayor and do a reality show in Hialeah with a Soprano's meets Banana Republic spin on it. You think I am being nasty. I am not. I actually think people would watch it.

After that, maybe he can move to Chicago and run for something.

Hey, people, everybody has something to share. We each have our own gifts and talents.

Anon: US Century is behind them. Raul wanted a part of unincorporated Dade annexed to Hialeah in 2005. Sergito wanted to build homes there. Raulito and with Robaina lobbied the county--you guessed it--with Natasha and Alex rubbing stamping the annexation. And who gave the loans to Sergito? US Century. Oh the incest. and who gave Raul his money at Bimini in cash? Ahh..Sergito of course.
