I remember you Jimmy! By Geniusofdespair

In an OpEd piece in the Miami Herald Sunday former County Commissioner Jimmy Morales asks if people remember him? I do, he was one of our better County Commissioners and he ran for Mayor against Carlos Alvarez, garnering 322,032 votes to Alvarez's 396,798. I voted for him. His look back over the Alvarez tenure is pretty good, he brings up the Marlin's Stadium (He was against it and Alvarez was for it) and about Burgess, he said:

Nonetheless, seven years ago, when I suggested the next mayor should hire a new county manager, this newspaper and particularly then-columnist Jim Defede blasted the idea as all-but-unhinged. No one at the paper or elsewhere even bothered to ask why I felt such a change was necessary. God forbid that a county mayor would want to name his administrative team! Political expediency trumped good policy and headlines trumped the truth.

Has it been seven years already? It turns out, Jimmy was right about a lot of things but we all remember in the end it came down to, "he just wasn't Cuban enough."

Please---not him again!

Don't you remember that scam that Morales was running with the outside PAC? He was using a third party to pay for campaign staff to skirt campaign financing laws. If the state attorney was anyone other than Fernandez-Rundle, he would have been indicted.

Read the result of the audit into his misdeeds here: http://www.miamidade.gov/ethics/library/JimmyMoralesReports.pdf

If you are a believer in good government, you will find it troubling. I was terribly disappointed in him.

I miss Jimmy Morales. I voted for him, and so did many in the Black community.

Alvarez was not our pick. And it showed in the recall election. We voted Alvarez out.

I only wish others had voted for Mr. Morales over Alvarez. This County would be in far better shape for it.

Morales was the victim of a high tech lynching by the Guttierez machine. But he also ran a very weak campaign and could not get his feet on the ground with the Cuban Americans.

I actually thought it was a pretty good column. Liked the shot at DeFede.

I voted for Jimmy. Always liked him as a person and as a commissioner.

It was a great column. It clearly speaks to the fickler nature of the County voter. He is dead right. The whole world voted for Carlos because he was not a politician, wanted the stadium for the Marlins and would retain George Burges.
Seven years later the same voters hate the Marlin stadium, wanted George out and needed a politician Mayor who would do what they wanted him to and not what was the correct thing ...to protect the services for the constituents.
Also let's remember that only 14 or less of the people spoke. The rest of you sat on your hands. Now, in a cash strapped budget we will have spent 5M and another 10 million before we get a new Mayor.
And what will he/she do? Fire all professionals and bring in their low cost employees from Hialeah or City of Miami. But that still won't do anything about Union contracts that will have increases if no arrangement it worked out before September. Don't forget that the future Mayor will also have to run to Bramman to get approval on the budget, so that may take a bit of time.
All I can say is that anyone who runs for Mayor is either a crook or and idiot, pick your choice.

With Seijas gone, can we start making fat jokes about Jim Defede?

Huh? I have to ask 'Ready with the snide remarks' when we stopped making fat jokes about Jim Defede. I do hear that Bell will 'grow' into the Seijas role (or is it 'roll"). I am sure those rock miners will fatten her up as she prepares to dole out the pork of our natural resources sold off in the name of job creation.

Ha ha. The rock miners and other exploiters of the environment are salavating after hearing the 'dinner (Lynda) Bell' call them to feed at the public's expense.

Dermites beware, the Bell tolls for you. You are on the menu.

How come everyone ignores the fact that Micharl Pizzi is in bed with Lowell Dunn, the King of the Rock Miners?

Anonymous said...

Pizzi is quite plump, but I can assure you that he has never slept with Lowell Dunn. I assume that the Anon is refering to Jr. Senior passed away and that whould an additional allegation leveled at Pizzi, but I am not going to dig that one up.

GoD: Finally, something we agree on! Fat jokes are awful, mean, easy and a real sign of stupidity. Stop it, people. With all that's being written about bullying, it should be no surprise where and how kids learn it. Can you just imagine what those dinner-time conversations must be like? Ugh. Makes me ill.

It was a total sour grapes op-ed piece. Get over it, Jimmy.

Sorry if the DeFede reference stirred up the crazies. Just interesting to me that Jimmy doesn't forget stuff like that.
