I approach switching from ATT with excitement. Really. I am an iPhone user. For years I have been hostage to extortionist billing practices of ATT, waiting forever it seemed for another carrier to offer compatible service with the iPhone. Finally, the iPhone from Verizon is on the horizon. I will be switching, iPhone and all. Free, free from ATT. O Happy Day.

Join the troupe going over to Verizon. Also, I just go rid of AT&T internet--the worst.
Left ATT and Iphone. Went to Sprint and the htc EVO. I found the droid to be superior to the iphone in many ways.
AT&T is the worst service provider and nastiest to deal with there is.
I'll deal with anyone else to avoid doing biz with those awful, awful people.
Last year, I experimented with the Magic Jack, which is supposed to provide VoIP (voice over internet)phone service with unlimited long-distance, for $19.95 a year.
Suffice it to say that it was a disaster, for me at least, with horrid voice quality to the extent that no one could make sense of what I was saying because outbound calls "broke up" badly.
But the worst part was the AT&T long distance. AT&T provides long distance service for Magic Jack, and if you use this, and your friends call you locally, they can be hit with long distance charges.
A friend of mine, who also had AT&T land line and cellular service, and who lived 8 blocks from me here in Chicago, called me from her 773 area code number, on my Magic Jack 773 area code no. Same area code, eight blocks from each other, and she was hit with long distance charges for every one of those calls. AT&T was extremely rude and uncooperative when she attempted to get these charges reversed. That was the last straw- I returned the MJ to the Radio Shack store where I purchased it, and Radio Shack cheerfully refunded my money.
But AT&T never made good to my friend. I had to do that.
Does anyone know when? We went to Verizon a month ago and they had no idea when they would get the Iphone. And what about Verizon? Aren't they as bad politically as ATT? Or do I have to ignore that part of it to get good phone service?
Also, what are people using for internet instead of ATT? Please don't say Comcast because I will never, ever go back to those scumbags.
tom
ATT stands out. The extortionist practices of cable utilities have pushed me over the edge more than once. I traded DirecTV for Comcast, and Comcast' service has been awful. Comcast has this elaborate customer service phone queue and its service STILL doesn't work. But nothing compared to ATT Wireless. The moment I can cut them off, I will do a little freedom dance.
In a lot of ways, the telecommunications oligarchy resembles in its consumer rip-off, the health insurance industry. Consumer access to state-of-the-art telecommunications is better in many other countries than in the US. But don't tell that to the GOP Tea Party who are still using smoke signals as far as I can tell.
I pay for my wife's AT&T iPhone, and I cannot deny that AT&T billing is evil. However, not to rain on your parades, but Verizon is just as guilty. Google "Verizon phantom charges" that those customers have to deal with. Verizon is also not cheap. Another thing to consider is that EVERYONE will have to swap out their AT&T iPhone for a Verizon iPhone (because AT&T is GSM and VRZ is CDMA) - so more $$$. And heaven forbid if you are still under AT&T contract and have to pay the ETF (early termination fee) to get out.
I just did a little research and found out this: Iphone 5 will be coming out in the early summer. It might be wise to hang on a little longer and see what happens. I think, for the time being, we will get a jailbreak iphone3 and see how it works with tmobile. I hate the thought of signing a 2 year contract right now. Anyone use an iphone with t-mobile?
I moved from Miami to Tampa in Septemnber 2010 and switched phone service to Verizon on a BlackBerry Bold 9650. The 3G service has been excellent and Internet on the phone is the best I've ever had. I say two thumbs up for Verizon!!
We have Brighthouse for cable here and it offers Internet service at 54/5 Mbps, which I have.
Verizon has just installed Fios in my complex (TV & Internet over fiberoptic cable) and I'm switching. The speed is supposed to be lightning, and TV picture quality the best available in the residential market. It also includes a home phone line, all for just over $100.00/month.
No, to all of the big carriers! I went from att to tmobile to sprint, thry all suck. Metro PCS now offers an android! It is the best. I pay $52.00 a month for everything! Talk text, Internet, the works. The Phone is $99 with rebates. I paid $179 before the sale, but could not be happier.
