That Damn Hat Lady. By Geniuofdespair

Like Miami isn't embarrassed enough already in the United States, now Frederica Wilson has done us in again, having Congress laughing at us. With so many issue of importance she is focused on how to change congressional rules on hat wearing which will help only one person: HER. I have a message for you Frederica: STOP IMMEDIATELY!

Focus on something that will help us and NOT YOU and for God's sake, don't make us look foolish ever again in Washington. I am tired of getting laughed at. Get your staff to research REAL issues not the history of hat wearing. What a sorry state of affairs, I don't know how you can get respect from your fellow Congressmen and women ever again. Nice Going Congresswoman Frederica Wilson!

What?!!!! You mean it is not all about her? Change US history to accommodate her hats? What a butt.

They should put a hat rack for her outside the chamber doors. And get a shrink to figure out why she is so dependent on hiding underneath hats.

With all the major problems this nation faces Frederica Wilson's first offical act is all about herself, not about what she was elected to do. Only in Miami can we elect a circus clown and wonder why we are in this mess..........

That's actually what she just said, too.

She only said that "after" she embarrased us even more. What a mornic, selfish person she is. You people who put her in office, good luck getting those "jobs" and economic development you really need. Her next act may be extra expenses for a hairdresser because she can't wear those gaudy hats!

Hey, we specialize in electing morons. It's in the drinking water. Here's what I think: EVERY member of Congress should be required to wear a cowboy hat. At least that way, we'll know the doofuses when we see them.

How silly indeed. We are the laughing stock and the electorate loves to slice off its nose to spite its face.

Rep Wilson, glad to see that you are over it. You have no rights record to compare to the great late Rep. Bella Abzug. She accepted the hat rule. You must accept it. Its about service without distractions, not costumes.

This is one sad electorate. Let's review:

Scott over Sink
Bondi (or is it Blondie) over Gelber
Artilles over Edwards
Bell over Flinn

Why did Wilson deserve to win? What were her accomplaihments?

The electorate has made our collective beds. Good night.

She has made enemies all over the US now. The military must have strong negative feelings about her. Service people are giving up everything from families, to arms, legs, eye sight, even their lives everyday in service for this country. And she can't even give up a hat for a few minutes a week while on the floor of the House of Representatives? Give me a break. A lot of people outside Miami are going to want her out of office.

I don't think she understands the significance of the job.

It is a good thing she is a Democrat otherwise she might have gotten the Sarah Palin treatment in the national media!

Frederica now says: "I really don't want to be distracted from what I've been elected to Congress to accomplish," she said. "The media has taken over and it's almost as if I was going to Congress to wear hats."

You were the one who brought it up gal and you are the one who put your staff to work researching the history of hats. Don't blame the media for foolish, money and time wasting behavior.

Frederica Wilson is proving herself to be a joke. I have lost all respect for her.

It's as if her fashion was more important than her policy positions. She should have dropped the hat issue as soon as she heard about the no-hat-rule.

This is what Norman Braman has been talking about: Miami has a lot of low-quality politicians.

I can't take this woman seriously.

One for the books… I have differed with Genius 99.9% of the time, but on this one he’s absolutely right. With soaring unemployment figures, historical deficits, a few brewing international conflicts and this lady has the balls to be preoccupied with her vanity. Give me a break. I went through some of her campaign materials and web page and didn’t find that changing the rules on hat attire was one of her priorities…

As soon as the national media learned of her nonsense, she abandoned her silly quest.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha ... wait! sob, sob, sob.

Do we really live in a town that elects these characters?

The saddest part is that she will not even face qualified opposition in two years.

Thank goodness she is letting this go! It signals to everyone that she is beginning to learn and understand her role and the culture in Washington. She needs to quickly move into important issues impacting the country and the district. No unemployment compensation money for millions of unemployed people for Christmas is a good place to start.

Its sickening. It gave Fox and Hate-radio pundits a weeks worth of material. Why couldnt

Go figure, she's a product of the Meek's political machine along with Oscar Braynon from her 5000 role model scheme, whom she is mentoring to take over her seat in the florida state senate district 33. Lordy lordy lordy, stop the embarrassment. I'm so glad the Meek's era is over!

We the people must take a stand and stop voting these self serving career politicians into office.

Watch out for baby Braynon.

It's unbeleivable how our elected officials have taken the liberty to represent themselfs. "Taxation without Representation". Frederica Wilson enough is enough (Bananna Republic).

I don't think she understands the significance of the job.

I don't know if her constituency understands it either. Actually, it seems that very few people in the county understand that they have make wise choices and why. And that they are being played for dunces by organized of self serving groups (read that as self-enriching individuals)and political machines.

Seems like I might be the lone voice to support her. I think all of you are making this into a bigger deal than she even is.
I know you think this only affects her, but I compare it to a broader effort of an individual trying to change what they believe is wrong.
We just recently celebrated Rosa Parks for what she did. I am NOT comparing Wilson's hats to civil rights and Parks, so don't attack me on that. But.. at the same time, Wilson doesn't see the point to banning hats, same way Parks didn't want to follow 'rules.' There are a lot of laws that I think are pointless. I would love for someone to take up those causes.
Even if it affects only a small number of people. Say, one of 435.

My father wanted me to go to private high school. I didn't want to. Why? Because I didn't want to wear a uniform. Seriously. I wanted to wear my own clothes. Not what someone else said I had to wear. Which is why I remained at a public high school. Public. Like our government. I understand rules and regulations. I do. I know in public schools we have dress codes and limit t-shirts with dirty messages, etc. But her hats are not worn out of disrespect. There are not obscene messages on them.
I know you all will say, she knew the rule and if she didn't want to follow it, she shouldn't have run. It was her choice. But come on, I know this isn't her main focus.
We all need a little levity in our lives.
Women used to have to wear skirts out in public. What would Hilary Clinton have done if the Senate had rules that prohibited women from wearing pants on the Senate floor?
I know that this is an aside that was blown out of proportion because of media coverages.
Lighten up everyone and let's give her a chance to see what kind real work she can do before we all jump on the hate bandwagon.

It shouldn't have been her first order of business...

If she were in a lighter role, I think people would lighten up. All newcomers to Washington are being sized-up to determine who the heavy-lifters are, and who the light weights are. She made a major faux pas by saying she intended to change the rules, but has corrected it and now trying to clean it up. She has a big learning curve ahead of her now and she does not need to fall before she even gets in the door. So lets just call it a freshman mistake. But she can't make anymore.

You don't understand if she removes her hat it will be revieled to the world that she has NO brain.

But she shouldn't fret over that she's got plenty of company in congress.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Marco Rubio wanted to wear a Guayabera on the Senate floor?

MSNBC and Air America (oops sorry, they went BK after all the glorious press reports when it launched and George Soros money to start the network) okay, Randi Rhodes I am sure she now is on some local radio station in Madison, WI, she would have had a seizure on air over that request!

Marco represents diversity not because he is Latino, but because he is Latino and CONSERVATIVE. He is off the reservation! I love being told that we need to TOLERATE others point of view.

Marco Rubio is not the real deal he is barely to the right of Harry Reid (Watch).
he is an opportunistist who played the tea party suckers like a virtouso and is running away from them now that he got where he was going.

I agree that most politicians who won on the tea party ticket have not forgotten where their party line leads.
