I remember when Jimmy Morales, who was half Puerto Rican, was not Cuban enough for some folks when he ran for Mayor. Well that purity issue is raising its ugly head in Miami Dade County Commission District 2. Here is a facebook exchange where one woman is voting for Dorrin Rolle for one reason: Because he is black. Apparently Rolle is the right kind of black, because his opponent, Jean Monestine is also black, Haitian American. What can you do when someone obviously hates Rolle and will still vote for him because he is black?
Stinks doesn't it? And to think someone would broadcast this on the internet, it is a sorry state of affairs. I apologize to you Mr. Monestime for this exchange. You deserve more. And, to the woman whose site this was on T.S., you disappoint me. I did volunteer work with you for the NAACP years ago. Ironically we were helping Haitians. The purpose of our work was to improve the NAACP relationship with Haitians, do you remember? I thought you were smarter and of better character, but I guess I was wrong, maybe Martin Luther King will remind you what is important:

Rolle's character sucks and both these women know it, so they suck too.

Sadly, you have hit on the reason Mr. Rolle will be voted in again. King wanted whites to be color blind but Blacks in Miami violate his dream and it is depressing to watch.
To be the Devil's advocate, maybe she has never seen the other guy.
BUT, what will be the point of enlightenment that will show her that she needs to see how poorly he provides service to his community?

Trouble is brewing in District 2. One of the women said: I live in the district. True but we all have to live with the commissioner's votes so we ALL have a stake in who is elected in 2. I implore residents in District 2 to vote for the best candidate. It isn't Dorrin Rolle.
She knows how poorly he serves the community, look at her second entry. And, these are the activists in the community conversing, they know Jean's color. These people should know better.
It is a sad day in the district and the county if the crooked African American beats the well qualified and honest Jean Monestime. Jean has lived in this country since he was five years old. He loves this country and his community with a passion.
I hope beyond hope that Jean wins this election. You go man: Miami-Dade County needs to Fire Rolle!
The bottom line is District 2 needs change-real change not just pretty development projects. The new center that Rolle tauts about on 62nd and 7th recently had the front ripped off a store by thieves. He has avoiding tackling the core problems and instead has spent 12ys lining his pockets. It is simply time for him to go...

Hello! We have a President of the United States who was elected in the primary simply as a result of his skin color. Nobody can tell me Hillary was less qualified or prepared than Obama. (The guy had less than 2 years in the US Senate & did nothing in private life).
We are now suffering this decision. Obama's poor preparation for the office is going to result in a slaughter next Tuesday in the House and Senate.
You are joking of course. If the Pubs didn't have such a lame ticket they might have been contenders. Obama was the best candidate - Hilary was polarizing - and it HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS COLOR. Actually, I think Martin Luther King's words rang true, we saw a man of good character who spoke eloquently, we saw him as a viable candidate. I like our President but I knew he would be in trouble the moment he got into office because the country was in a downward economic spiral from the last administration.
Could it be Miami Dade people living in District 2 are more discriminatory towards SOME blacks than the rest of the country? I would hate to think so.
I congratulate Eye on Miami for always trying to remain objective and open on the ideals of the various candidates and issues, and that this is a forum where people can share their opinions.
We need to cross boundary lines and begin supporting candidates, not based on their ethnic background, but on their moral character and their willingness to act in goodwill for the benefit of all the people, regardless if they live in their district or not.
If Mr. Monestime win, the people of District 2 will win. He represents the only viable way right now of "recalling" Commissioner Rolle for voting to raise our taxes.

Very well said. I think Monestime is the right person for the job. Regardless of background. It is a sad day when us black people can't work together for on our own issues.
