The Miami-Dade Primary Election in Pictures. By Geniusofdespair

The big surprise for me on election day was in District 8 where I was expecting Annette Taddeo to make the run-off. The big disappointment was the loss by Julio Robaina to Mickey D.

The picture above was snapped at Eugene Flinn's campaign party celebrating his move to the runoff with the most votes in County Commission District 8. Pictured are Pam Gray, Howard Tendrich, Eugene Flinn, Sid and Marionette Robinson (Redland activists). He will face Lynda Bell who I have personally disqualified from running.

This young man with Candidate Philip Brutus was so personable. He is really going somewhere.

To see more pictures from the campaign trail, hit read more:

These two campaign workers were so happy even though they were stuck outside for 12 hours on one of the hottest days of the years.

Loved this photo because that is Phillip Brutus who was a candidate for the Meek seat against his X-Wife Yolly. He posed with her signs recognizing the humor in it.

Liked the hat this Albert Harum Alvarez supporter fashioned for himself. I am sorry Albert wasn't in the runoff. He is a very good person. I do admire him. Albert: How about a blog on what it was like being a candidate?

I can't say I am sorry Joe Celestin lost. Miami Herald, you really blew it on that endorsement.

Of all the precincts I visited this was the one with the most signs: Palmetto Bay.

Pictured is Mrs. Flinn and the Flinn's eldest daughter (who was busy multi-tasking, reading and texting). Both are very nice people.

I titled this photo, Rolle Ick, I didn't have the heart to taint this paid campaign worker's face with the T Shirt he had to wear. Dorrin Rolle is in a runoff with Jean Monestime. Everyone send Jean money, really. This is our chance to get rid of Rolle.

congrats to all the candidates who ran. You showed guts and commitment to the people of your districts.

Congratulations to Annette Taddeo and Albert Harum-Alvarez for developing as excellent voices in the community for honesty, green development and green jobs.

Congrats to Rabbi Danny for being the most likable guy in the race with wonderful ideas and great delivery.

Congrats to Obdulio for a good showing on his first time out in a campaign.

It isn't easy running in a race with so many talented, articulate candidates. One day, perhaps all districts will be so fortunate.

Good luck Gene Flinn for a hard fought first place finish: it is up to you to protect the integrity of the seat. You MUST beat Sarah Palin, oops, Lynda Bell.

Sign me,
TRULY BLUE

Homestead is the poster child for the housing depression: will District 8 really support Lynda Bell? Nope.

I agree with you on Robaina. Certainly-- along with the Javier Souto and Pepe Diaz races-- a very depressing indicator of the state of Miami-Dade County.

G.o.D., thanks for being an intelligent voice in a chorus that is often full of idiots. Thanks to the Eye. Thanks to the intelligent contributors and the incredible diablogs.

I love this blog...it's my kind of place....just reading all the comments puts a big smile on my face...

I am sad about some races, but happy about Flinn. Now, the voices for good need to unite. I hope that will happen. I think it will.

I just clicked on all the County Commission District 8 websites looking for candidates' concession messages to their supporters and maybe a hint of whom they'll support in the runoff.

Albert Harum-Alvarez wrote a beautiful message to his supporters and volunteers who helped him. You are a class act, Albert.

At Annette Taddeo's campaign website, however, at the bottom of her home page - right smack at the top of her "Campaign News" section there's a direct link to the WFOR-4NEWS video and article about the Mayor Flinn/Cody lawsuit.

http://www.annettetaddeo.com/

The story is not about her but about one of her opponents (and a leading opponent as it turned out) yet, she still posts it as part of her campaign news on her website.

This is interesting.

I agree. This blog is way better than Homestead is Home. Tryly Blue, you are right on. And to the others, you are also right, there are too many idiots out there. Unfortunately that includes voters. People do not know who or what they are voting for. Please do not let Lynda Bell (Sarah) have any control over Dade county. She has caused enough damage already and left a terrible mess in Homestead. She did some downright dirty campaigning last year and appeared to be only concerned with her own interests. District 8 cannot afford to succumb to that level of despair like Homestead is suffering through now.

Bell has been out of office for close to a year. The mess you've created since then - That's all yours, baby, all yours.

And the people know it.

Its gonna be a long year, Mayor Waldman, I mean, Mayor Bateman.

Pretty long indeed.

Why has there been no discussion on Katie Edwards (Pave it, Pave it now)entering the political arena?
She's just as bad as Bell.

Because she is NOT as bad as Bell.
