Candidate Obdulio Piedra's Employer In Trouble and Lynda Bell's Campaign Report. By Geniusofdespair

Yes, Candidate for County Commission District 8 Obdulio Piedra's Bank is in trouble according to the South Florida Daily Buisness Review with second quarter losses of $8.2 million dollars. "On April 13, state and federal regulators hit Great Florida Bank with an enforcement order that gave it 120 days to reach heightened capital ratios." That deadline is Mid-August. Obdulio is the Market President for Miami Dade County for Great Florida Bank. He has been an officer, according to Forbes.com, since January 2007. Great Florida has been a "0" bank on BauerFinancial since June.

I wouldn't care about this except Obdulio has repeated at Candidate's Forums that Government should run more like a business. Hmmm. Not the Banking business I hope.

Lynda Bell collected $40,459.21 of which $16,000 were loans to herself. She got $4,000 from Torcise interests. Torcise's Company Atlantic Civil had an option to buy agreement with Lennar to build mega-development Florida City Commons a few years back on the wrong side of the UDB line. He is now rock mining that land. Bell also got $2,000 from Miguel DeGrandy and family, Vile Natacha's favorite lobbyist. There were 4 donors common to Natacha on Lynda's report: Zuni Transportation, SDI Quarries, Allied Trucking and Jorge Azor.

Isn't Taddeo the one who needed cue cards at the Miami Herald interview? She may know about HER business, but she doesn't seem to know much about County Hall or policy. The Chamber South forum was an even bigger eye opener. I think the Herald called it right. She should get involved locally, maybe the Pinecrest City Council for a start.

In regard to Bell, don't forget the $1500 from Shubin & Bass. They represented Atlantic Civil.

based on the comments, Annette Taddeo must be getting under some of these candidates skin since this blog post is not about her. hmm....she must be the front runner.

What does Bell do for a living and where did she get $16,000 to loan her campaign?

She told the Herald she's a property manager, and I have to ask, what property? She owns her home and a townhouse in Homestead and has no property manager license according the the State.

I also found the David Peyton connection. He's the President of 1st Nat'l Bank of South Florida. They were on the Board of a company called Nutri Balance, which was disolved.

As to Obdulio, I think he should focus on his real job at the Bank. It sounds like he has much bigger problems, and a Campaign like this one isn't going to allow for extra time to focus on work!

I have looked at the Bell report and there is a heck of a lot more than 4 grand from the Torcise family. Some of the individuals are the siblings and sibling in laws of at least Rick Torcise and maybe some on Steve Jr.'s side, too. I think Biscayne Growers, trucking companies, the precast businesss, etc all related in some way to the family. Bottom line is that they are investing heavily in Bell and it is their right to spend their vast wealth in that manner. However, and most importantly, this report shows that Bell does not have widespread individual financial support from within the district from those not swirling in the Torcise orbit. Given her valiant efforts to outrun the Bateman train, I am surprised by the shortage of Homestead donors, even if it were just a few bucks each. Money aint everything but it sure helps.

Do not make accusations about candidates unless you include the source. I cannot allow quoted material etc. unless you give the source -and other things some of you are throwing out there. Also do not post stuff and blanket statements about donors without source material. If you think there might be a link to someone then speculate - don't make blanket statements.

So now this blog is removing accurate comments about business ownership, employment history and possible voting conflicts ?

Geniusofdespair said...

Yep because you are posting anonymous informatition AS FACTS about citizens -- that I cannot check. Not fair to me, the blog or the readers.

Geniusofdespair said...

You said POSSIBLE VOTING CONFLICTS. If you had written it that way it wouldn't have been removed.

What is wrong with words like maybe, possibly, could, would etc. and what is wrong with according to ----.

Much more reasonable than postings things like: Alex Sink wlll be appearing at a Family Coalition meeting when it is an out right lie. Too many of you are liars. I am sick of liars.

Word of advice: do not respond to posters. It is your blog and you publish what you feel is appropriate.

Wicked Witch of the East and her favorite lobbyist/elections lawyer.....

You still have a chance to RECTIFY your stance for this seat.

Good post. Isn't it interesting how the powerful builders/bankers/speculators who already control 12 of the 13 seats on the county commission, will flex their muscles just to show they can get number 13? What an indictment of representative democracy.
