I think County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa will be running, I have been reading a lot of feel-good stuff she is doing. One new thing she would bring to the Mayor's office is her penchant for bright colors and bold prints. I am getting tired of seeing guayaberas and suits. Another positive, she is not one of the hated unreformable majority. Who is she? Here is some info from her website, besides the County Commission stuff:
Commissioner Sosa graduated summa cum laude from Biscayne College, now Saint Thomas University, with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education; and from the University of Puerto Rico, with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. She is both a certified elementary education teacher and an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instructor. She has been an educator for more than 23 years and is currently a teacher-trainer for Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Born in Camaguey, Cuba, Commissioner Sosa has been happily married to her husband, Armando for the past 30 years, and is the proud mother of Armando, Jr. (wife Janice) and Veronica and grandson Alexander.
Prior to joining Miami-Dade County, Commissioner Sosa served as mayor of the City of West Miami for seven years where her leadership resulted in the city's recovery from a 52% budget deficit, thus removing it from the State Governor's Emergency list. During her tenure, she was able to secure more than $5 million in grants for capital improvement projects for the City as well as improving its drainage and parks systems. Her civic activities include: serving as the first vice president of the Miami-Dade League of Cities, Chairing the West Miami Financial and Budget Committee, the Miami-Dade Coalition for Community Education Committee, and the West Miami Hurricane Preparedness Committee. In addition, she has been a member of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Bilingual Task Force, the Governor's Commission for the Everglades Restoration, the Revision Committee for the Miami-Dade County Executive Mayor Form of Government, the Legislative Committee of the Miami-Dade County Public School System, the Hispanic Women Chamber of Commerce, Hands in Action, Women in Government (WIG), Anti-Graffiti Task Force, and the National Association of Latino Elected Officials.

A County Commissioner will not be the next Mayor. Remember, people love their Commissioner, but hate the Commission. Look for the Mayor's race to be a battle between Julio Robaina from Hialeah and Rep. Marcelo Llorente. Both of whom can raise tons of money, are relentless campaigners, and well-liked by the voters.
The previous remarks must have been written by a man. What is wrong with a woman who is a Miami-Dade Teacher leading this county? All I ever heard of her is that she is a decent person and a hard worker for her district. Too early to think about the Mayor’s race; however if Sosa were a candidate, I would definitely consider her as my choice.
Hialeah Julio, what a joke he is.
Having suffered through several BCC's public hearings, Ms. Soza stroke me as one of the few commissioners that asked intelligent questions from county employees during those endless meetings. I would consider her seriously if she decides to run for Mayor. Sick of the 'ol boys club!
Just what we need a Marco rubio ally as Mayor.
Rebeca smart, that is a stretch.
..obviously those last 2 remarks are friends of Julio.
Trust me Julio's friends wouldn't be reading this blog on July 4th
The only reason she asks smart questions because her CoS writes her a script before every meeting.
Quite frankly, last anon, that's giving her CoS a little too
much credit.
I've worked indirectly with both Gimenez and Sosa, and I can say as much as the commission is the crazy 13... both G and S are intelligent and mean well for the County.
Robaina is having huge problems in Hialeah right now. What out if and when the forensic accounting happens that the unions want. Also, there are rumors that Robaina has been involved with the ponzi schemer who served on a Hialeah board with the Mayor, and the Mayor, or his wife, making money off the scheme, and not reporting the income. Llorente is a good guy, but, he doesn't have the experience to actually run a government. He is a legislator, not an executive.
Will someone please explain how Sosa can work full-time for the school system (where she is paid with my hard earned tax dollars), yet she appears to be at the County hall all day? She doesn't seem to miss any meetings. Does anyone else remember the no-show job that Carey-Shuler had with the schools?
Oh my goodness, she was my Spanish teacher in 4th and 5th grade. I had no idea she was Commissioner until now!
