Miami Herald: What is wrong with your photo editor? By Geniusofdespair

Miami Herald: Did your photo editor go to the National Enquirer School of Journalism or the New York Post School? This is the third time recently that I have called you out on really biased photos. Come on! This photo, at left, is from a course called Blog Photo Editing 101. It is not worthy of a 'respected' media outlet (maybe not so respected anymore). Just print a photo, you don't have to go with the worst one you can possibly find - that is my job in blog-land. Give your readers credit for a 3 digit IQ.

Helen Thomas has never been pretty but that photo is over the top ...the dumbing down of the Miami Herald. Why do you read it?

Very good question. And thanks for putting the live feed of the BP disaster... looks like they really have that sucker 'under control'.

Why do I read the Miami Herald:

1. It is the only game in town.
2. It gives me lots to write about.

With so much going on locally to write about, such as corruption, the dying local tax base, waste of tax dollars, incompetent local officials, the Herald chooses to focus on a thrity year old news event called Mariel. It seems we are now in the third week of that obsession. The morning paper is getting thinner and less relevant by the day. An uninformed electorate is the most dangerous. It is the failure of the Herald as a watchdog that will keep scoundrels in office.

Yes. Matt Haggman wrote about District 8 but neglected to write about the candidates.

I think they let Glenn Garvin pick that photo.

I think that the image was selected because of Helen Thomas' anti-Israel comments (and therefore synonymous, in the Heralds' editorial mind, to being anti-Jewish). The editor chose an image that would depict her in the negative way that the paper's readership supposedly thinks of her.

BTW, isn't it interesting that the pandering Herald only publishes columnists and guests that are either repugnantly pro-Israel right or wrong, Israeli apologists, or conveniently selective or creative with the facts. Why don't they ever offer another perspective, perhaps from some other resident of the Middle East, like an Arab, perhaps.

I, for one, would love to hear the opinions of people from countries that are Israels' neighbors, as well as American Arabs and others.

Oh, Lord, I can relate. If I were her, I think I would fire the publicist.

Is there a flattering picture of Thomas, anywhere? She was frightening small children in D.C. 30 years ago. She never had to dress up for Halloween.

Second-to-last Anon: Yeah, you're right. We don't get nearly enough anti-Israel rhetoric in our daily media diet.

And you're also correct that Thomas' comments shouldn't automatically be construed as "anti-Jewish." I mean, what's a little Judenrein between friends, right?

Perhaps the 5 people still working at the herald or their 50 regular readers should take a look a this video of the crafty rabbi/rapper...

What is wrong with that picture? She seems to be smiling. It's not the Heralds fault that Helen looks the way she does. Can anyone here find a picture (from any decade) where Helen doesn't look like Igor the hunchback?

I'll get you, my little pretty...and your little dog too.

I usually agree with you, but you are barking up the wrong tree here. We have all seen Helen Thomas and that photo looks EXACTLY like her. I bet that was the most flattering picture they could find of her. She looks even more scary in person.
