2 Questions about Tomas Regalado's Campaign Report. By Geniusofdespair

Was going over Mayor Tomas Regalado's campaign report and found an entry for $5,000 paid to Marta Basallo from Brickell Key for 'consulting'. Wonder what that was for, can't figure out who she is from public records. Also, the $1,219.80 paid to Walter Haas of Hialeah for 'diamonds' has me baffled.

Walter Haas is a large printshop in Hialeah and "diamonds" are the diamond shaped campaign signs that are placed on light poles around the voting precincts. The diamond shaped signs are also used on sticks that the campaign volunteers hold at the polling places.

Thanks reader- they should have written 'signs'
don't you think?

Martha Basallo is Tommy Jr's Wife. She helped run the campaign and organized and MCed many of the events.

Did you see all the campaign contributions from the Outdoor Advertising Industry? They are falling all over themselves to blanket Miami in disgusting billboards and mural ads. The billboard companies, CBS, Clear Channel and Carter make Miami look like a sewer.

DIRTY!!!!!

Martha should have worked for free, since when do you pay relatives for campaign work. Smells....only someone like Barbara Jordan or Dorrin Rolle would do that. Tomas Regalado should be above that.

Maybe she was let go from her job...and I saw her at every event so if she works...she should get paid.

If all you can find on Regalado's campaign report is $6,200 in questionable expenses do you think that the blog entry should have been something like "Regalado's campaign looks incredibly clean"? You are concerned with $1,200 in "diamonds"??? Are you kidding?

Regarding Martha Basallo being paid...people! It is $5k! It isn't as if she was paid $50k! It is certainly a reasonable amount and it is nothing outrageous! There is so much corruption in this county, do you think maybe our efforts are better spend elsewhere? She worked for the campaign, she got paid a little, so what?

Don't take such offense, a campaign should be spanking clean and questions should be asked ESPECIALLY when money goes to relatives. It is not good policy to put relatives on the payroll - yours or others ask Angel Gonzalez. Since Regalado has a net worth of $6000, $5000is a lot of money in this family. This issue is important.

I did NOT analyze Regalado's campaign report. I was looking through the final expenses specifically looking for Steve Marin's name for my previous post. I happened upon these two expenses that made little sense to me. I am astounded that protests here are so harsh for questions being asked. Seldom have I seen a person's name like that on a report. Most consultants have corporate names. Campaign workers are mentioned by name but they seldom make that much. And people just write 'signs' on reports not diamonds.

Asking questions is a good thing.

Campaign contributions are incredibly difficult to investigate. Lobbyists like Steve Marin have been accused of bundling contributions from many small donors. An investigator would have to research every donation to see who works for who.

Sometimes a company, like outdoor advertiser CBS Outdoor, will have one of its out-of-town executives like a Joe Little, contribute. Who is investigating?

Some companies send 20 $500 checks. What do they expect for their money?

Might want to look at Maurice Ferre. He seems to have one relative on payroll, his granddaughter, Sonia.

Regalado is a perfect fit for the Banana Republic along with Armando Gutierrez.
They are doing a great job tackling corruption. Those arrect last week sure let me sleep better at night.

During the Manny Diaz - Larry Spring sales pitch to the commissioners to bailout the Marlins, City CFO Larry Spring testified the City was in excellent financial shape. "Strong". Minutes after the vote it turns out the City was facing bankruptcy.

When do they get their handcuffs?

More important - doesn't the city of miami have an anti-nepotism rule? I saw regalado's website and it lists a regalado as an aide. could that be a relative? son?

About October of last year, Denis Rod said on a TV program I believe La Ley that the problems with the City of Miami would not be solved in 2 years - there are too many and they go too deep. History has proved him right. It is obvious that he had the knowledge and the understanding of what was and STILL IS going on at the City of Miami. We have a very critical situation and no one seems to know what to do. Not the Mayor nor the commissioners Gort and Sarnoff. The 3 were there when the problems started and continue. I'll not mention the 3 new ones, since it is their first time on the commission.

It seems that the new City of Miami Administration is not a favorite with the FBI, State Attorney or the Federal Counterparts. The end justifies the means logic is running rampant in the City. But what is the end? A witch hunt?
