The deadline for the Lazaro Gonzalez' Mayor recall petition drive, is today at 4 pm. According to the Miami Herald Lazaro admitted he had 47,964 signatures but that he needed 52,108.
Lazaro Gonzalez hung up on me when I reached out to him to ask him to work with others on a more suitable and sustainable fix to County problems. He didn't want to hear it. He never got back to money man Marty Margulies. Lazaro Gonzalez was a stubborn guy. He had to do it his way: A 'my way or the highway' sort of guy. That translates to the "L" word.

Your didn't offer to help Lazaro with the recall. Instead, you tried to persuade him to abandon it. Perhaps if you had given him support, it would have been a success. We will never know. Shame.
He wasn't the right person to recall. I said that in a post. In my view it is not a shame. A Recall is not something you do at a whim because you are mad at them. It is for egregious lapses.
My help would have meant squat by the way. Marty's help that would have meant a lot.
I said to Lazaro, lets all work together and get some long lasting results. He hung up...he was rude. I wasn't. I wanted him to know there were other people working on alternatives that he did not care to hear about. So be it. A closed mind cannot hear.
He is Stubborn with a capital "S".
He will be my next chief of staff, his inabilty to get the job done convinced me that he is the right man for the job and his command of spanish is perfect for travel and business to latin america.

Alvarez didn't deserve the recall effort. He made some bad decisions PR-wise, but overall he is a good balance to the 13 Commissioners. And can you imagine who would run to replace him? "Money" Diaz? Raul Martinez? We could have gone from bad to worse!
Here goes shitferbrains again. Puts the same damm comment everywhere about Alvarez diverting 3 billion taxpayer dollars to the Marlins. Newsflash bimbo-Alvarez was for the stadium from day one of his first campaign in 2003 and continued the same pace throughout his second campaign. Where were you?
Also, Alvarez alone did not vote for Marlins Stadium-The board of county commissioners and the City of Miami Commission also voted.
Why don't you try to do something positive for this community or say something worthwhile that at least makes sense and stop making a rear end of yourself.

He has done bad things and good. I dont think he has done a particularly good job. But I dont think he deserves to be recalled. Thats a bit harsh and its the shoot first ask questions later mentality that will get us nowhere.
Was that really the mayor who commented? I am glad he comments on your blogs. His staff does not answer emails.

This is really sad. I wanted to sign the petition and the petition never got to me. I did not feel comfortable picking up a petition at some bakery shop in Hialeah or elsewhere; something just did not seem right about this, plus I really did not fully understand this whole thing about being a circulator and/or nortorizing each signature...or form...whatever. Call me ethical or stupid, but I do not understand it and I think the law is stupid anyway.
I had left a phone message for Mr. Gonzalez when this entire recall thing started. I got the number from a news article that was circulated via the Internet, but I never got a call back.
Then there was a rumor that Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina wanted Alvarez recalled so he could hopefully fulfill the seat. God help us!
At the end, the entire thing had such a stink that I did not waste my energy in pursing to help. I know from experience how difficult it is to fight in for something here. I think Mr. Gonzalez got trapped between wanting to do the right thing, having limited resources and money and having a stupid law to contend with, that the task became impossible to accomplish.
Mr. Gonzalez did do a lot more than many of us are willing to admit. He is one man who set out to give the citizens of this county a chance to vote yes or no on recalling the county mayor.
I feel really sad because it was all of us as citizens who lost our chance to go to the voting polls and be heard. Had it been that way, Carlos Alvarez would have been out of county hall!
May I point out that just because a recall petition may have gotten enough signatures, the chances of a vote actually garnering enough support to follow though? Insanely miniscule.
I can almost bet Gonzalez did not have 47,000 signed petitions. Half maybe. And guess what, of whatever he did have, when they get verified for authenticity, he probably would have half as valid ones. So folks, he was not even close.

Carlos Alvarez deserved to be recalled. Why does Alvarez demand the taxpayers pay him and his overpaid staff to be the "strong mayor" while at the same time he demands the taxpayers pay dimwit George Burgess and his overpaid staff.
This last anon must be the same goon that posts about the 3B dollar marlins stadium...the use of the word "demand" is the clue.
I agree with anonymous above. Why does Alvarez take the pay to be strong Mayor and still keep Burgess around?
"ned said" above must be another taxpayer paid publicist for Carlos Alvarez. Maybe "ned said" can convince Alvarez to fire Burgess and then resign himself? Finally Alvarez would be accused of two smart decisions.
