The Peterman Principle: Visit Your National Parks. By Geniusofespair

Frank and Audrey Peterman wrote a book called Legacy of the Land: A Black Couple Discovers Our National Inheritance and Tells Why Every American Should Care. They are personal friends. I especially liked Part Two of their book: The Making of a Black Environmentalist. You can go to their website and learn more, they wrote extensively about Everglades and Biscayne National Parks...they also wrote candidly about their relationship with Audubon of Florida.

Frank is speaking at the Everglades Coalition meeting today about diversity in the Restoration project. They are a special couple and it is wonderful to share in their journey.

Can you get one of them to run for commissioner? They are the kind of activists that we need in government.

The Peterson's participated in the 1999 struggle to save Virginia Key Beach from commercial development proposals. Check out Chapter 16, page 108 of their book- where they recall the community struggle and the conclusions that came out of a community charette: the best way to save Virginia Key is to include it in the National Park System, "completing a blue necklace' linking Virginia Key Beach, Biscayne Bay and Biscayne National Park."
