This email was from a friend of mine that I know to be a Regalado supporter: I brought your question up with City Commissioner Tomas Regalado. His immediate answer on the continuing litigation on the Lowe's application:
"Of course I'm opposed with continuing the fight. The Cabinet gave an opinion and its wrong what the County is doing. Both morally and otherwise."
We spoke about it a little bit more and talked about sprawl and our increasing water supply problems that we have here in South Florida. He was very interested in these issues.
I was promised a more formal response from my friend at a later date.... Maybe Tomas will call a county commissioner and tell him/her what he thinks. That would be a good thing to do. No word from Joe Sanchez yet.

I look forward to the long answer. I think we do need more on his view of sprawl and environmental issues.
Regalado must have a relationship with Bruno Barreiro. That is who he should be calling. If more City Commissioners called County Commissioners and held their feet to the fire on issues, maybe then the County Commissioners wouldn't be so out of control. Regalado here is what you say:
"Bruno, how is going? How about you move to drop that lawsuit for that hardware store? We don't appreciate wasting money to sprawl out west of the county when the City of Miami needs so much. Thanks Bro."
Bruno was supposedly going to run against Regalado.
I would assume he made a lot of enemies with the Marlins stadium vote.
It's amusing to me how Tomas Regalado is so outspoken against the County lately. At the City's budget hearing he instructed the City Attorney to follow-up with legal action against the County regarding the $1 million the City is owed from the County from parking surcharges. He has also taken many other cheap shots at the County because it looks good for his "I'm the People's Mayor" campaign.
Reality is his little thug, Gutierrez, has been working very closely with his cronies at the County to get a lot of support and money for Regalado. Actually what was interesting was that Natacha Seijas and Audrey Edmonson even sponsored a fund raiser for Regalado at Robert Hollad's house in Miami Shores. Regalado is a farce and you may not like Joe Sanchez but what you see is what you get with him. Regalado is just a poser and it is really scary to think what will come of City Hall if he is elected.
Edminson and seijas both voted on the mega plan and marlins.
Just because a person disagrees with someone does not mean that they can't be amicable.
You obviously missed that lesson in pre-k
Regalado also won the UEL orchid two years in a row.
The guy is not an enviormentalist. He's old school.
Don't spend money when you don't have it
Don't build when buildings are empty
Common sense
Common Sense; hmmmmmm; what a concept when you are discussing politicians.
Common Sense tells you that someone who has a net worth of $5,000 at this point in his life; has had IRS garnish his wages, has not paid property taxes, and is proud of it, is NOT the sharpest tool in the shed OR is brilliant at pulling the wool over everyone's eyes with his "little poor man for the people rhetoric"
the sad part is his followers are so blinded and brainwashed they don't have common sense.
Bruno Barreiro is a huge supporter of Tomas Regalado he is also a huge idoit.
Common sense would also assume that you would not give a bailout to the Marlins. Or allow illegal spot zoning. Or when the whole community has a petition to stop something you listen.
Wife is off limits...
Regalado supporters: The Urban Environment League IS NOT AN ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP. An award from them does not constitute anything on the enviro front. They gave an award to vile Natacha Seijas for God's sake! She is the most anti-enviro I can think of.
People, this isn't an open forum on Regalado vs. Sanchez.
IT IS ABOUT THE COUNTY POSITION ON CONTINUING A LAWSUIT..AND WHAT SANCHEZ AND REGALADO THINKS OF THAT AND THE IMPLICATIONS IT REPRESENTS TO THEM.
SO STOP WITH THE ATTACKS ON OTHER THINGS. I COULDN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT STALKING, AND OTHER STUFF...
The only attacks people have on the guy is him personally.
Nice. He has lived in the limelight for half a century.
Why don't the Regalado haters put something up worth mentioning. Like all of the "bad" things he has done for the City.
There was no disrespect intended. The comment was merely to show lack of moral charachter on behalf of Regalado having a much publicized affair.
There is nothing worth mentioning. That is the point.
So having a lease publicized affair is better?
Dude this guy...and his family have already lived through this.
Let sleeping Dogs lie.
NOT HERE. I just want to hear about what you think about their regional thinking. Or do none of you think regionally? Stop with the piddly shit.
Why don't you Sanchez supporters get him to answer the question posed to both candidates. Let's give both of them an opportunity to think and write a good answer (or at the very least get someone to write it for them). As you can see, supporters are woefully uninformed on this issue, throwing the Urban Environment League as a beacon of the Environment.
WOAH,
Genius. I stated "Regalado is NOT an environmentalist" I just mentioned the UEL award because you wrote it HERE and I figured it would be relevant to the blog.
Sorry...what was your point then? It doesn't mean anything one way or the other on this issue. Where did I (not Gimleteye) write about a UEL Orchid award? Was I just parroting a news report? I don't remember referring to any awards for Regalado or Sanchez unless I was mentioning a press release.
I believe Tomas Regalado got the Orchid from the U.E.L. for his vote on the Marlins Stadium - Against it.
It is kind of relevant. Regalado received his award for a zoning issue. Which the Lowe's is.
*just pointing it out*
Yes Gifted, thanks for pointing that out, but Lowe's isn't/wasn't a zoning issue. It was a comp plan amendment. The implications were different then that of the stadium.
The stadium isn't in an area where there is suppose to be NO infrastructure expenditures by the County -- where the Lowe's is. The Lowe's is close to the Everglades...different animal.
Regalado has stated he believes in living within his means. That is why he purchases what he can afford. He has lived in the same house for decades and he says he will die there. He never tried to use leverage to increase his Net Worth, like most people in America. He has common sense, which he states he will use when he becomes Mayor.
(By the way, Regalado's opponent demanded that the taxpayers divert $3 bil to pay for a stadium that benefits a non-Floridian private company. The $3 bil was supposed to be used to promote and support Tourism in the Greater Miami area.)
Regalado won the respect and admiration of residents and activists for voting against the re-zoning of the Mercy Hospital site for three massive high-rises. (Sanchez voted to re-zone.) Then Regalado won praise for his votes against the $3 bil Marlins bailout. (Sanchez voted in favor of the bailout.)
You sound like broken records. Don't you people know how to read? You are not very smart if you keep repeating the same tired mantra when this post is clearly CLEARLY not about the same tired things you always refer to. You make your candidate seem very one-dimensional.
This is similar to the Obama craze
Joe Sanchez is Manny Diaz-Lite
McCain was W - Lite
And yes all lot of supporters talk about CHANGE!HOPE!
But a lot of his supporters are respected people in the community. He has gotten support from pretty much everyone.
Correct me if I'm wrong of course.
