Maurice Ferre vs. Kendrick Meek

Why does Maurice Ferre say he is considering a run for the Senate:

"When you look at statistics whether it is about the cost of living, the average wage, unemployment, everything that impacts the quality of life, you see that Florida is ranked low in all of that, in education, in health, in federal benefits." "We are a donor state and we only receive 75 to 80 percent of what we contribute to the federal government... That is unacceptable."

I am glad that I might finally have a choice. I hate to cast a vote on the premise, "well at least he is not... (fill in the blank)." If not for SB360, I might have voted for Crist. He did the right thing yesterday, replacing the 2 Jeb appointed Public Service Commission members that were under a cloud for chummy relations with FPL.

Ferre will clean Kendrick's clock the primary. His challenge will come in the General Election...

I'd support Ferre. To date, none of the current slate would get my vote in either party.

The best candidate for the U.S. Senate, or the Governor's Race is Rod Smith.

You mean, Bob Smith? Anyhow no one named Smith is going to be elected over someone named Crist.

Ferre just loves the spotlight. He's only 20 years too old.

Ferre will get the Hispanic vote, he is intelligent, articulate and is only as OLD as he feels. However, he is in good company age wise in the Senate:

Senator
Robert Byrd 91
Frank Lautenberg 85
Daniel Inouye 85
Daniel Akaka 85
Arlen Specter 79
Jim Bunning 77
Richard Lugar 77
Dianne Feinstein 76
Chuck Grassley 76
Bob Bennett 76
Orrin Hatch 75
Richard Shelby 75
Carl Levin 75
Jim Inhofe 74
Herb Kohl 74
Pat Roberts 73
George Voinovich 73
Barbara Mikulski 73
John McCain 73
Jay Rockefeller 72
Roland Burris 72
Thad Cochran 71
Paul G. Kirk, Jr. 71
Kit Bond 70
Ted Kaufman 70
there are another 34 in their 60's

How many of these were elected to the Senate for the first time, in their 70's?

Ferre -- "Ego without End" says it best:

This is going to be one of those races where I will have to vote for the lesser of 2 evils. I will not vote for Crist after his pro-builder position on HB 360. I can't vote for bible-thumper Rubio who thinks spouses have no say in end-of-life decisions and wasted lots of money dragging the Shiavo case through the courts. Meek is saddled with his less-than-ethical mother and a do nothing track record. Do I love Ferre? No, but he might be the lesser of all the evils. I am interested in what he has to say.

Your analysis is impeccable - I will do the same. When analyzing Ferre and Rubio:

The old adage, "age before beauty" applies.

A challenge by Ferre can NEVER be taken lightly. He is "old school" but cunning and smooth as silk. In his sleep, he knows all the right buttons to push. He knows he can hold some cards in this game, and knows how to play whatever hand he gets. He gets in, the whole dynamic of the race changes.

Meek was inserted into Congress by his lobbyist mother. Meek is still a lobbyist isn't he?

Meek's mom became a lobbyist after she retired from Congress. He was already in office then. And he has never been a lobbyist. A State Rep and Sen yes, and a state trooper but never a lobbyist. Get your facts straight.

And he will overwhelmingly win the Democratic nomination, don't be delusional.
