Miamian Armando Gutierrez Jr. to take on Congressman Allen Grayson in Orlando? Moving up or just, out? ... by gimleteye

Armando Gutierrez Jr. recently established residency in the Orlando area-- from Miami-- with the intent of running against a first-term congressman, Allen Grayson, who is gaining national attention for his direct, pithy attacks on the GOP. The Democratic congressman attracted howls from opponents and cheers from Dems, when he said that the Republican health care plan is "to die quickly". The chorus grew louder over the weekend at a state Democratic meeting when Grayson called the GOP "The Selfish Party".

Gutierrez Jr. is known in Miami politics through his father; a senior member of the lobbyist corps and political campaign manager. In Orlando, newly arrived Guttierez Jr. would have to overcome charges that he is a carpetbagger, having never proven his mettle with district constituents. It is a curious first-time effort, and given Grayson's rising popularity might not be a good choice for a political neophyte or the kind of resume builder that would serve in the long run. In the Republican primary, Guttierez Jr. could face Jeb Bush loyalist, former state senator Dan Webster.

Speaking of loyalists, Politico reports that Karl Rove gave $1000 to Marco Rubio, gaining traction in his primary battle for US Senate against Gov. Charlie Crist. "NBC’s Chuck Todd first reported the donation and concludes that it is a sign of where former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s true loyalties lie in the hotly contested GOP Senate primary." That's news? Chuck, read our blog archive; type in "Rubio" under the search button, or, begin here. This is all about the return of Jeb and regrouping of radicals in the Republican party, expectant that voters remember nothing.

Guess Armando realized he can't even win a race down here for his own son, so they're gonna try to hoodwink our Central Floridian neighbors. This will be ashort lasting campaign, but God knows, with Armando as the father, it will be one of the dirtiest, sleaziest ones out there.

And the sons are held for the sins of the father.

Lets give the kid a shot before you crucify him.

It's news to Chuck Todd -- cheeto-eating pajama wearers are by definition not "content-generators."

Recent Orlando arrival, Armando Gutierrez Jr., canceled a planned congressional campaign kick-off event slated for this morning, with an adviser saying there were no problems with holding it, just a push to raise campaign donations and meet voters instead.

Gutierrez is among a handful of Republicans lining up to take on U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando.

"Armando is a work horse, not a show horse," said Brian Graham, a campaign adviser.

Meanwhile, the campaign announced that state Rep. Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary, had endorsed Gutierrez, a 28-year-old developer from South Florida. He moved to Orlando a few months ago, Graham said, but he's got business and family in the area, and has been involved in commercial circles here for years. Here's Dorworth's endorsement.

Graham said Gutierrez filed federal paperwork to run on Friday, and raised more than $100,000, so far -- not including the $50,000 he plans to put in himself up front.

In related news, former state Sen. Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden, is expected to announce his political plans for this seat some time this afternoon.
