Marco Rubio, for US Senate? ... by gimleteye

With former state House Speaker and Miamian Marco Rubio to announce his candidacy this morning, battle lines to be the next US Senator from Florida are being drawn. Within the Florida Republican Party. It is a interesting conflict, pitting the strain of extremist leadership-- embodied by former Gov. Jeb Bush-- against moderate Gov. Charlie Crist. Rubio is a stand-in for Bush and the dilemma of re-organizing the Republican base at a time when the Republican Party carries the legacy of the economic bust. Crist has been more in tune with state-wide demographics. The general population is far more moderate and growing in numerical advantage compared to the radical right. But that is for the general election. Whether being moderate helps Crist, who has yet to announce, or Rubio--who is set to announce this morning--in the Republican primary is the question of the hour.

The very thought of Rubio as a US senator turns my stomach.

Marco is anti high property taxes. Unfortunately, I think he is anti public schools too. His kids go to private school. He actually indirectly dissed the MDCPS system in a room full of teachers at an EKHO meeting a while back. He is a bit arrogant for me. Does he eat arugola?

Good, we need Marco. he was the one that led the House and the House approved property tax fairness. it was Gov Crist and the senant that killed that deal. He did his part which was listen to the people who were screaming for a fair tax system. we need someone that gets the importanty things done. GO MARCO!!! we need your leadership in reforming the tax code both locally and nationaly!!!

You think Marco Rubio is anti-public schools! Yeah, like maybe Pope Benedict is anti-abortion. Rubio has been with Bush and Arza and Fair in a frontal assault on Florida'a public schools throughout his undistinguished politcal career.

Let's see, Ray Sansom slipped a provision into the Florida budget for his friend Jay Odom's airplane hangar and he stands accused of a felony. Marco Rubio slipped a provision into the Florida budget for his friend Max Alvarez' to supply gas on the Florida Turnpike and he stands for election to the US Senate.

Run for the U.S. Senate! This weasel should be running from the law. Did the same things Sansom did as Speaker. Should be indicted just like Sansom. Besides the era of political representation by empty-headed male/female model mannequins is over. The days of all of them, Rubio, Anitere Flores, David Rivera, Erik Fresen, etal., are numbered. Rubio has a better chance of going to jail than the Senate. But his campaign will be good for a few laughs.

I would vote for one Republican: Crist. That is why he will win. I am a Democrat.

Nick Tuffney
Occupation: Property, exporting, investment
Buying: Curry sauce
I've been away from London 10 years and had a very successful life here in Florida.
I'm married, have six children and I've made money. I have lived the American Dream and have just bought a bit of jungle in Panama which I want to turn into a resort.

Nick misses his curry sauce
I think to succeed in America you have to be outgoing, which I am. But it helps if you can get any advantage and the English accent is definitely an advantage.
I don't think I would ever go home to England permanently, I just think people these days walk around like zombies who have been shot. Why can't they wear something bright and put a smile on their faces?

Having said that, some of our kids are in school in London at the moment.

When they were in American schools I was so proud of them and the way they conducted themselves compared with American kids.

So I want them to keep an idea of what it is to be British, what it means. That gives them stability and culture because they need to know who they are, particularly if like me you start from humble beginnings.

And that's probably why the one thing I have never liked about Florida is its lack of society. Everyone acts like your friend, but they're not really your friend. It's a hugely transient population.

IS THIS THE SAME NICK TUFFNEY, HE DOESN@T SEEM TO HAVE A GOOD WORD ABOUT FLORIDA???????

Your friend Nick;

Who cares about him? We sure don't.

No the first comment regarding him by anonymous is not me. Obviously there are several people on here who have posted anonymously, including me.
So the first poster mentioned his name but I can't find any reference to him on any thread on this site, so why does his name suddenly crop up, and why does whoever need more people like him.
I'm just curious as to why he suddenly left for Panama to live in the jungle.???
