Regalado said it was a good idea but that the neighbors were ignored, not given enough time to digest it, so "NO." Spence-Jones and Sarnoff "YES." The surprise: Sanchez "NO." Angel Gonzales home sick.
I am too tired to watch anymore, 7 and half hours. Maybe someone will change their vote.

I'm not surprised. Regalado was never in favor. He will not vote against MNU (Homeowner's group) and he's very anti Manny Diaz. As for Sanchez, this is a political hot potato. Manny threw him under the bus by forcing this hearing in August when everyone is on recess. Bad strategy. It may come back, but there will have to be more compromise and dialogue. Specially from Liz Plater and the new urbanist cult members. They have to ease off the Kool-Aid and stop taking this so personally.
Miami 21 is a dog. 100 speakers. So many problems. Nice concept. Pretty pictures. But the devil is in the details.
looks like EOM had a comment that was on the money from earlier today:
Commissioner Gonzalez will not be attending. I hear that there will be a motion to table the discussion, until after the budget has been dealt with.. Joe and Manny are now at war, because Joe believes that Manny has not honored his commitment to help raise funds for Joe's Mayoral campaign. Sarnoff has said in the past that he doesn't like Miami 21, but may consider approving it as an alternative code, as the Herald suggested today. Coincidence??? Nothing is a Coincidence.. That said, with Joe and Tomas voting no, Angel absent, and only two yes votes (Sarnoff, Spence-Jones) the motion to approve will die... Going to be fun!!
No surprise with Sarnoff. He already got rid of all those pesky poor families in the West Grove on Grand Ave. and tore town the affordable house (well, not him personally, but you know what I mean). Now that street is empty and ready for multi use.
Hope all those poor families found homes! I'm afraid, though, that there is little concern for them. Out of sight, out of mind. Ironic that the very plan that would make us more of a interacting community gave these people an excuse to get rid of the poorest among us.
The other M
Of course. The current code protects the poor right? What planet do you live on?
The consultants Manny hired for Miami 21 are best known for planning a resort in NW Florida that has no affordable housing. No middle class housing either. Units start at $1,000 per sq ft.
Last nights 7 hour City of Miami Commission Meeting concerning Miami 21 is once again proof positive that Manny Diaz is extremely unpopular to most citizens and business operators for what Miami has become under is 8 year administration. Many folks feel that anyone and any project identified with him is tainted and most likely guilty by association. Even if he had the secret to unlimited cheep and environmentally safe energy by harnessing lighting or creating cold fusion, many folks would still be hesitant to accept it, just because he was endorsing it. Hopefully Miami 21 or a better version of it will be further studied and developed after the November election when a new administration moves into City Hall. 3 months and counting down. I agree with Harry.
We should not judge plans on their merits. We should put aside policy and focus on personalities. Manny Diaz is evil so any idea he comes up with, even if good, must be evil.
That is why I also agree with everything Tomas Regalado stands for, even if I don't know what that is, just because Tomas is a nice guy.
Manny Diaz spend years forcing the taxpayers to waste $3 bil on one private out-of-state company.
