Jim Morin's Herald Cartoon Today. By Geniusofdespair

Check out Jim Morin's cartoon today. Don't think that sprawl is stopping because of the economy. The Mega-development called Parkland, outside the UDB line, is still in the pipeline. We are not out of the swamp yet.

The latest gimmick by the developers is to build high-rise condos in the middle of single-family developments alleging "workforce" housing. Lennar built ugly barracks calling them "townhouses" also for workforce dwellings. The price started at $250,000. I wonder what workforce they were talking about! More than half remain unsold or foreclosed. So why continue to build when foreclosed houses in the area are selling at prices so low than what the proposed condos would be offered. I'm talking about SW 248 St. from SW 112 Ave West to US1. Such buildings are sprouting everywhere. Who approved the zoning change, is a mystery!

Want to see the plans? You have to travel downtown as they aren't available where they should be -the South Dade Government Center that serves the residents of South Dade.

Looks like the ugly barracks, although there's parking in the driveway and on the streets. The development is Silver Palms and people have to park on the sidewalks as Lennar didn't leave enough parking spaces. The hearing on the proposed high-rises is scheduled on 4-28-09, 7:00 pm, at CC #15, MD Holdings II, LLC. I bet you De Grandy or Rasco will be attorneys of record. Location: SW 248 St. and SW 117 Ave. All surrounding developments are single-family homes, so high-rises are out of character in that area.
