The County Commission 101: District 5, Bruno Barreiro. By Geniusofdespair

I decided I would do brief bio’s of the Miami Dade County Commissioners, Eye On Miami style. Some of you might not know a lot about County Commissioners, but you should! So I will do every Commissioner and here is District 5. (also see District 4, and links to 1,2,3).

Bruno Barreiro has the most misspelled name on the County Commission (defying the I before E rule). That is the most important thing you should know about him. In June, 1998 he was elected to fill the vacated seat of Bruce Kaplan, who stepped down as part of his mortgage fraud sentence.

Let’s take a look at Bruno's finances:

He said his net worth was $1,365,496.70 in 2007. Barreiro makes $106,000 a year at what appears to be a family business, Fatima Homecare. He owns this small farm parcel outside the UDB Line which he paid $12,500 in 1974. He valued it at $200,000 in 2007 (a parcel next to him, same size, sold for $245,000 in '06). He bought the land from Bonanza Ranch Estates (Jose Andonie of Coral Reef Development Corp.). He paid off an Ocean Bank Mortgage for $260,000, 8/08.

He gave $25,000 of his 2007 discretionary funds to Centro Mater Child Care Center. The Corporation was formed in 2006. He also gave $15,000 to Florida Venture Foundation. The officers of Florida Venture are from Broward. The Corporation helps "minorities reach success in South Florida's thriving construction business." He gave $25,000 to the Latin Quarter Cultural Center of Miami, Inc. He gave $10,000 to the Miami Boys Baseball Academy (what is with this guy and baseball?). He also gave $15,000 to St. Thomas University. I like the way Sally Heyman gives her dough (well our dough, it is our taxes) better. She spreads it around in smaller donations.

Bruno appears to be very dumb but I think he is smarter than he appears. Learning disability? He is, of course, one of the members of the unreformable majority of the Miami Dade County Commission which means there is no hope for him to be any better. He rarely votes right on any pivotal issue. He was the one with the worst argument for the Marlin's stadium. Something about South Beach and Little Havana, trust me it was dumb. The stadium is in his district so he played a big role in the vote, warding off his fellow commissioners' additions of any substantial amendments to the deal.

BTW, do your friends a favor. Send them a column or an Eye On Miami link to THEIR Commissioner so maybe they will vote better next time.

He owns land outside the UDB? He shouldn't be voting on applications.

Don't need any more evidence that land speculation is the order of the day at the county commission. Any day of the week.

Are you seriously claiming Barreiro of a learning disability??? Alan, that's an outrageous statment that is low even for you. There are millions of people in this country with learning disabilities who would be incensed at your indiscriminate comment. You need to apologize for your insensitivity.

For those who think a conflict exists on UDB votes because Barreiro owns property outside of it, you need to brush up on the law. Barreiro can and must vote unless he is directly benefitting from his vote.

Automated Robot must have a learning disability too because this blog was not writen by Alan. Bruno's arguments are almost as disconnected as Souto's. Maybe he does not have a learning disability but is just dumb.

Bruno Dumb? NAAAAAA
He's just neuronically challenged.
Automated Robot your Neurons (if you have any) seem pretty challenged also Of course if you change land Use and Zoning outside the UDB and you own land Outside the UDB you will benefit from an increase in value.

So you gullible fish believe that Gimleteye is a different person from Geiousofdespair because Farago tells you so? You believe blindly a person who trashes people anonymously for years? So, if Geniusofdespair is not Alan, who is it?

The point is that this blog claimed a man has a learning disability merely because the blogger(s) don't agree with his politics. Calling someone "learning disabled" is akin to calling someone "retarded." Both are demeaning and equate serious medical conditions with bad behavior and such use should be condemned.

As to neuron anon, moving the UDB does not necessarily benefit all properties outside the line. You really need to learn the topic before spouting off.

Okay, I am sorry I said he has a learning disability. I was actually trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. I have a learning disability, I don't feel like I insulted myself.
There is no shame at having a learning disability. It just makes people understand that there are obstacles for a person to overcome. I would rather people acknowledge that -- that I have a challenge -- than have people think I am inarticulate. You putz.

Automated Robot

I'd have to be a moron not to regognize that Bruno is an imbecile.
Bruno is like a hand puppet for his dad who is the real mind behind Bruno's blank stare and his mom is the absentee ballot machine that keeps him gettin elected.
Automated Robot I knows lots about property and I don't always agree with genius's (who has just admitted he has issues of his own and may not be a genius after all)opinions. BUT moving the UDB, whether you favor it or not does benefit people with property outside the UDB cuz it either brings them inside the UDB or brings the UDB closer to them, raising the possibility of getting inside the UDB in the future.
Is genius also gimleteye? Possible
But then who is Automated robot? (Bruno? Gus?) and who am I? A deep philosophical question that I must ponder on.
None of that takes from the fact that Bruno is gravely impaired in some way and that he would somehow benefit from westward movement of UDB (and a few more neurons and or synapse wouldn't hurt).

D2: So if you have a learning disability you can not be a Genius? Hmmm. I don't think that is correct do you? Not that I am a Genius but a learning disability doesn't always effect your cognitive ability. For instance seeing a "D" as a "B" etc. would not lower your IQ.

I chose the name Genius of Despair because from despair about Miami Dade County came this blog... a tonic for trying to pull things out in the sunshine so readers could see another side.

I am more of a genius at turning lemons to lemonade: That is, if it can be done, and can usually recognize when something is a waste of time. In other ways I am good at sizing up a situation. And, I am not too lazy to do research.

ALSO: If a property is moved within the UDB or closer to the line, the value of that property is significantly increased.

Genius, all I was trying to say is we all got issues even folks with high IQs (geniuses) sometimes function in ways that leaves one thinking(unless your Bruno who can't think). Einstein reportedly had trouble tying his shoelaces as a child and honestly so did I (Though I can't even begin to do that relativity thing, E=Mc2 or build a nuke)

ok "SIGNIFICANTLY" but my point is that even brininging the UDB closer helps property value increase (even if based on a speculative assumption of a future move). SO BRUNO And his puppet masters DO BENEFIT.

I never had any problem in school that swift kick in the ass couldn't fix. Does being a little jerk-off count as a learning disability these days? Give me my ritalin and send me on my way.

Bruno should live long enough to see how he got outsmarted by the Marlins sharpies.

Bruno should live long enough to see how the Marlins Bailout will bankrupt Miami-Dade County. Maybe he will tell his grandchildren, "I did that..."?
