Grand jury indicts former Florida House speaker

Former Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom and Northwest Florida State College President Bob Richburg were indicted Friday on a third-degree felony charge of official misconduct. According to AP, "Gov. Charlie Crist called the news of the indictment distressing, but noted that an indictment is not a conviction. "Our system of criminal justice has a presumption of innocence," Crist added. Sansom stepped down as speaker because of the investigation and an ongoing ethics commission inquiry into helping funnel some $35 million to the college for building projects -- an amount that exceeded dollars directed to many larger colleges and universities in the state."
