Let's Talk Turkey! By Geniusofdespair

No, I am not going to get all misty over the stupid Thanksgiving holiday and I am not shopping Friday but please, I encourage all of you to shop so my stocks go up. No, today I am more interested in Frank Rollason’s letter in the Miami Herald. First, Miami Herald could you have made it any harder to find this letter online? I finally had to enter his name in the search to get to it. Second, I previously reported on this. There is no third.

Now back to the letter, Frank (former City of Miami Assistant Manager) says:

“County Commissioner Bruno Barreiro wants to repeal the ''cone of silence'' ordinance that forbids bidders and lobbyists from having direct contact with elected officials and administrators during the period of time that a contract is out for bid until it is awarded.

Why do some continually want to weaken controls that help establish credibility among their ranks and boost residents' confidence in the system? Maybe, because it makes it difficult for them to legally do the backroom deals that have become commonplace. What a joke.”

Some “Good” commissioners moved this Barreiro agenda item forward to Committee. Why? You might ask. Well I believe it is their reasoning, that the “Cone” is broken and certain things about it must be fixed. Fine, in a perfect world that would be true. But, in Bizzaro County Commission land, it only lets the unreformable majority* of the County Commission to get their foot in the door to rape the current ordinance, or worse, discard it.

*The Unreformable Majority of Miami Dade County are Vile Natacha Seijas, Bruno Barreiro, Pepe Diaz, Audrey Edmonson, Barbara Jordan, Dorrin Rolle, Joe Martinez and Javier Souto. They vote in a block on most important issues.

Again, most items are passed on first reading. I don't think there are many on the BCC that want to eliminate the Cone entirely. My advice, watch the Committee meeting.

Also, the Committee structure that will review this will be different, as Moss has the power as chair to re-assign Committee Chairs and members. Should be interesting...

I wonder who will be the new budget chair???

Will Moss let Vile stay chair of the most powerful committee after she voted against him? This will speak volumes about his backbone and give us a glimpse into the future commission. Just as important, will he give a committee of importance to Sorenson?

Yes, he will have to reward Katy with a chairmanship. I hope he gives her Government Operations and gets Natacha off it.

A friend suggested that this image of W next to the pardoned dinner be titled "Turkey with a side order of Lame Duck."
