Palm Beach Here We Come: August 6th. By Geniusofdespair

Federal Court Case brought by Florida Hometown Democracy against Florida Secretary of State, Kurt Browning will be heard (evidentiary hearing) Wednesday, August 6th in West Palm Beach. Mark your calendar. The fun begins at 9:00 a.m.

The mini-trial is open to the public and everyone is invited. We will know shortly if FHD will be on the 2008 ballot. Come and see history in the making.

The case is being heard by Judge Kenneth Marra, 701 Clematis Street, Courtroom 4 in West Palm Beach.

Well worth the drive!!! Plan on being there till noon. Leslie Blackner, the Head of Florida Hometown Democracy, will be on hand for the trial. She said, "Interestingly, The Wall Street Journal ran a passionate defense of the citizen's initiative process." The right to amend the state constitution is not a "liberal" or a "conservative" right, it's a fundamental right of the people to protect themselves from entrenched political power:

"Representative government will remain the enduring feature of American democracy, but the initiative process is a valuable safety valve. So long as elected officials gerrymander their districts and otherwise make it nearly impossible for voters to oust them, direct lawmaking will be popular. That's why attempts to arbitrarily curb the initiative, or to intimidate people from exercising their right to participate, must be resisted. It's a civil liberties issue that should unite people of good will on both the right and left."

Ms. Blackner looks so gentle and sweet but she is a pretty tough lady to go up against the developers of Florida.
