Javier Souto, saddle up that pony: you're taking us for a ride! by gimleteye

We took note, not too long ago, of County Commission Javier Souto's $250,000 extravaganza at Tropical Park to promote "agriculture and farming." Truth is, we were skeptical because old Javi is mainly for development. Development of any kind, but especially where it involves late night decisions on the dais where he can do his next favorite thing to riding horses, rambling on and on about Cuba and dark hidden forces all around us. Now we learn that the final cost for the extravaganza was closer to $450,000. I hope Javi got his money's worth! (Oops, make that OUR money.)

Souto is no more a supporter of local agriculture than Seijas. He fancies himself an international diplomat hence his international cattle show. He has two loves,Tropical Park (even running a worthless metro bus to serve it at considerable taxpayer expense) and Horse Country a reminate of once great horse and plant farming.
Listen to him when any person farming in the only viable commercial farmland left tries to speak against a bad zoning application, widening Krome or moving the UDB. He launches into his favorite deragatory speech accusing them of wearing Gucci shoes and purses and therefore unable to speak about protecting agriculture. Frankly I am a farmer and don't know any farmer who wears Gucci. But it gives Souto something to rant about. His cattle and agriculture show did nothing to promote local agriculture as our local farmers could not even sell their produce. Souto is way past his prime.

Margie at Bee Haven Farm sold organic produce. Another nursery sold plants. The winery people were there too.

The event cost so much money because Souto had his good friend Cire Andino Shiver a former county employee now married (soon to be divorced) to former manager Steve Shiver. Hmmm...wonder how much her bill was.

It is disgusting how much waste there is because of friendships and cronyism. When will decent folks run for office and reform this crisis of ethics and talent that we have in Miami-Dade County?

Don't know where all those fancy grads of the leadership programs are, but it doesn't seem like many of them are stepping up to run for office does it?

I wonder if you divided the total cost by number of people, what the expense per attendee was? It would be good ammunition next time Souto berates someone for fiscal horse manure. There's another idea: get the cartage fee for taking away the horse manure and divide it by the number of people attending, for another pungent Javier Souto statistic.

Wow, Shiver getting divorced so soon? Where is he headed? House on the market and divorce on the horizon. We should be so lucky that he bails to parts far away. Why would any decent "leader" surround themself with the likes of Shiver/Seijas/Souto etc when they would be outnumbered and impotent?

Shiver has a Western-themed theme park in North Carlolina that he is working on. I was not aware that they were getting divorced, and saw them both in Tallahassee during Dade Days, looked happy enough to me, but, as always, looks can be deceiving.

It used to be called "Ghost town" in Maggie Valley NC. I'm pretty sure he and Alan Harper (of EWM) bought it and are building homes and condos up there on top of the mountain.
