The daughter of long-time environmentalist and South Dade activist Paul Mulhern was killed early Tuesday morning in a tragic car accident.
Alyssa Mulhern, 23, was a graduate of Florida State University where she majored in public administration and urban planning. Alyssa returned to South Miami-Dade after college to work with her father on his many projects. She joined her father on the board of Redland Tropical Gardens as a Special Events Manager.
Paul is an owner of the Grove Inn Country Guesthouse bed & breakfast in Redland and is well-known throughout the area for his tireless dedication to public education and preservation of agriculture and the environment.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering for Alyssa on Sunday, May 4 at 7 pm at the Grove Inn Country Guesthouse at 22540 SW 177 Ave. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to Redland Tropical Gardens at 240 N. Krome Ave., Homestead, FL 33030. www.theredland.org.

This is a tragedy.
Damn. I am really sorry for the Mulherns. And also sorry for the community. She seems to have been someone of great promise.
my heart goes out to the family especially Paul who I met once at the Grove Inn.
There is no other way to describe it but a tragedy. Alyssa had so much promise and so many plans for Redland. Sometimes the good die far too soon.
The Herald and witnesses stated and implied she was drinking and driving.
I met Alyssa in Tallahassee where we worked together at Chez Pierre. She was a very sweet person and lots of fun to be around. I met her mother whom she had great support from. We will all miss her dearly. My heart goes out to her family.
I worked with Alyssa in Tallahassee and she was such a sweet and smiling person. She will be greatly missed...
my mom is her moms best friend. this is beyond unimaginable
I would like people to know what happened to Alyssa. She was driving home from work, talking on her cell phone to her boyfriend when she ran through a blinking red light. She did'nt make it.

Alyssa,
You were one of the first people I met at FSU. I will never forget your kindness to me and everyone else you came across. You are beautiful inside and out. I will pray for your parents and everyone in your life. You will be missed, sweetheart.
I am deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy. Most of my great college memories include Alyssa's smiling face. I've never met anyone as full of life. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
Alyssa, some of the happiest times I had at FSU were with and because of you. I can't believe you're gone. I wish I had stayed in touch with you more after I left Tally. Joel and I miss you very much, and we'll never forget that if it wasn't for you, we would never have been together. Thank you for always being such a beautiful friend. XoXoXo RIP
Alyssa was a sweet and wonderful girl full of life. She worked with me and was good at her job with children just like her mother.
