I coaxed someone to write a guest post. Don't have it. I read the paper: Nothing. We already reported on the Herald's lead story (on budget cuts) March 31st. Looked at my email, there was a really good article on Nuclear Power and Al Gore but I vowed not to cover nukes since South Florida doesn't give a shit.
The only thing left: Tomas Regalado is running for City of Miami Mayor - not much news, we were expecting that. I have included a photo with what could be his mother, but seriously folks-- this group could be his power base!
In Miami the Abuela (grandmother) rules. All these little old ladies band together at their free breakfasts, after being fawned on by politicians, and they elect charming/good looking Hispanic men mostly (like Rubio). Why do you think Vile Natacha Seijas threatened Gwen Margolis about free breakfast funding. Those who fund the breakfasts are royalty.
That is why we have so many losers in office. Someone has to get to these old ladies and kick their walkers out from under them on election day so they can't get to the polls. Or, to be more civilized: Talk to your grandmother people, they are being brainwashed every day at breakfast.

Regalado also has a Spanish Language talk show which is also a way to get votes in the Hispanic community. Often candidates pay the hosts to feature them. In this case: The candidate IS THE HOST. He can campaign all the time!
reminds me of an old song.."aint nothin goin on but the rent"
I have known Tomas Regalado for 30 years. I used to sell Spanish Language radio ads and do some marketing for WQBA-FM. Tomas was a star newscaster on WQBA-AM. He is a first class gentleman. He cares about our community and people. I don't know how he has managed to survive in the snake pit that is Miami politics and government. But he has and we are all better off for it. I told him that announcing his candidacy for mayor is long overdo. I am most hopeful that he will win. Miami deserves to be lead by a leader that cares about the people and not one that is pals with the developers and lobbyists. Look around our city and see the mess that Manny Diaz, his developer and lobbyist pals, his City Manger, his City Attorney and 3 out of 5 of is his City Commissioners have created. Then decide if you and Miami are better off or not and then vote your conscience. There is plenty of time to study the Mayoral candidates, their accomplishment, votes and shortcomings. Then vote for the candidate that you feel you can trust with our community's future. My vote goes to Tomas Regaldo and for a much better Miami.

Harry,
Don't be fooled. Regalado is as much a politician as the rest. But I venture to add he's even worse. It's not enough to criticize and say that you are voting for the people. You have to come to the table with positive criticism and creative ways of fixing problems. The only thing this guy knows how to do is to say 'NO'.
The real shame is that more City of Miami Commissioners did agree with Tomas Regalado and vote “NO” as often as he has.
If just two more Commissioners had said “NO” then perhaps we would not have…
A glut of condos bringing down all of our property values.
An unwanted Home Depot at Grove Gate.
Rezoning of our community to benefit a mismanaged hospital and a billionaire luxury condo builder.
A Fire Fee that was proven to be illegal.
A former City Manger that was proven to be a loose canon.
A former City Attorney that was proven to be un ethical.
I for one am glad that Tomas Regalado has been brave enough to go against the Manny Machine and say “NO” as often as he has. If more people had his wisdom and his guts then Miami would not be in as bad a fix as it is now.
There is still a year away before we elect a Mayor. So there is plenty of time for all of us to study all of the candidates, review their track record, listen to their plans for our future and select the one that we believe will be of most benefit to Miami and its future.

HAve you all forgotten Regalado's gas scandal?
He appears to be a bit better than his colleagues, but he ain't perfect.
Gas under the bridge...
If people are fed up enough to run for office, they deserve our praise. If better people ran for office, like Michael Bloomberg in New Your City, we wouldn't have the mess we have in government today. So people, call all your talented friends and get them to run for office!
