What is your New Year's wish for Miami? by gimleteye

It has been quite a year in Miami, 2007. The phenomenon that strikes me as most unusual and significant, is the crash in housing markets.

What about you? What do you believe were the most significant events of 2007 and what are your hopes for 2008?

Our readers are making eyeonmiami a daily touchstone. Thank you!

Best wishes to all, for a healthy and happy new year.

My New Year's wish for Miami:

I hope that everyone floods the DCA with comments on the UDB line. (see my December 23rd column).

I hope that everyone downloads the petition for Florida Hometown Democracy and sends at least 3 in.

I hope that a whole bunch of politicians get indicted.

My wish is for bold, positive change!

Thank you g.o.d. and gimleteye for reminding us who read this blog that there IS a community of caring, thoughtful and activist oriented people still here in South Florida.

My wish for Miami-Dade County is that our elected officials return to Mother Earth. They have been too long living in outer space plotting how to screw their constituents with their megalomaniac, crazy and expensive projects.

I agree, anon.

And I also wish everyone would adopt attitudes of conservation. I want to see my neighbors using their recycling bins, instead of all the bottles and plastics I see poking out of their garbage bags on trash pickup day. And that we don't see anymore sprinklers going on golf courses, front lawns, etc.

Face it. It's the new reality, whether we want it to be or not. And what we do now will determine the quality of life in 30 years.

Mayor of Homestead is recalled from office for violations of Sunshine Law and incomptency. Her backup singers go down with her.

3 wishes? OK-

I wish to see Florida Hometown Democracy on the ballot in November 2008 and win.

I wish to see the tax issue on the ballot and win.

I wish to see Mr. Braman take the Commission to court and win.

Wishes.

1. The gun violence will stop

2. That there will be some political upsets in the county elections.

3. I wish that green really happens in Miami and people get off their duffs to save their lives.

And of course, World Peace. and I have NO idea how to get there.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT EVENT OF 2007?
The impending death of the newspaper as we know it.

When the baby boomers are gone the newspaper will cease to exist. They are the ones keeping it afloat. This is the year -- the tipping point. it is all down hill from here.

Even scarier and sadder still…the death of reading as we know it…

I hope Norman Braman sues Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami over the silly waste of taxpayers money bailing out the privately owned Marlins baseball team.

I hope Carrie Meek finally gets indicted.

I hope Spence-Jones and her posse finally get indicted.

I hope all the people who are making themselves rich off the poverty of others get indicted.
