Big Upset in Miami Beach Election and The Guy with the Oral Sex Motto Won Big by Geniusofdespair

Matti Bower beat Simon Cruz (the guy with all the bucks) for the Mayor post. I guess there will be a runoff since she got only 47.92%. Luis Wolfson got 55.37%. Ed Tobin squeaked past Gongora (by 31 votes) with 50.17% and I say good and bye on that one. Deede Weithorn and Elsa Urquiza are in a runoff. One really bright spot, David Dermer's parting shot: The Miami Beach Code of Conduct won by 71%.

And, in Hialeah, the oral sex guy (Caragol) won pretty much by a landslide and the rest of Hialeah was pretty much ick as well. Something is wrong in Hialeah, Jose 'Pepe' Yedra had 3,817 absentee ballots (almost 1/2 his votes). In the Miami Beach Mayor race, about a 1/4 for each candidate were absentee. They really mine those senior centers in Hialeah.

Miami: Marc Sarnoff (88.9%), Angel Gonzalez (60.13%) and Regalado (with a whopping 90.31%) all won. Too bad about Mike Suarez but he made a decent showing with 39.87%.

In Homestead Linda Bell beat out long time, well-funded politician Steve Losner for Mayor. That could be good news. Don't know her... any feedback readers?

The gambling people were out in force even though it is not on the ballot till January. They gave me water. I like them now. See, I can be bribed and it won't cost you much.

Someone needs to look into the absentee ballot situation. Those that have won, now and in the past, do so with the absentee ballots. What they do is that they arrange with the person that manages these old folks facilities to control who comes in. Then they designate someone to pick-up the absentee ballots. In some cases I've heard that it comes with threats of losing their food and services. They are frighten. Some of these old folks don't even know they are still on earth, yet they can vote. How can they know what they are voting on? Go figure! This elderly voting has to be seriously looked into. Perhaps doing an evaluation on their mental capacity should be done on all of them. They also need to look at the management of these facilities. All of the absentee ballots of the elders should seriously be scrutinized.

To all those folks that care about Miami and that helped District 1 candidate Mike Suarez with his run for Angel Gonzalez's Commissioner seat:

Thank you for your extraordinary efforts in trying to improve Miami by helping to elect Mike Suarez.
Even though Mike did not receive the amount of votes required for a victory, all of you deserve a great deal of respect and appreciation from our community.
They say that we get the government that we deserve.
But I do believe we still deserve better then Angel, Joe, Michelle and Manny.
Congratulations to Marc, Tomas and their staffs on their election victory.
We hope they will continue to support our community as they have been doing.
We hope they will continue to support those that elected them.
We hope they will continue to support slow and smart growth.
We hope they will continue to maintain an adversarial relationship with all developers, lobbyists, and special interest groups (especially with Lucia and the Related Group).
Many of us are very sorry that Angel Gonzalez was not defeated so that Marc and Toms might get some help in their noble efforts to change the course that Miami has been on for far too long.
All the very best to you in your continued efforts to help make Miami a better community for all of us.
Regards,
Harry Emilio Gottlieb

Correction: Jonah Wolfson edged out Luis Salom, 55-45.

Oh come on, you don't really believe that anything including collecting absentee ballots is honest in Hialeah.

Mensa: This is not only happening in Hialeah where the old folks get bought for a meal and a little cash. In the City of Miami we have four now that have been elected by the absentee votes: Manny Diaz, Joe Sanchez and Angel Gonzalez. They have the system rigged! Someone seriously has to look into this in Miami-Dade. You cannot feed the elders, and give them a little cash for their vote. This is wrong and unethical

Correction...three in the City of Miami.

Mayor Manny Diaz went on the radio campaigning for Angel Gonzalez. He also went out to the precincts with him. Do these things only happen in Miami????

The "oral sex" guy from Hialeah, is under the protection of Julio Robaina, their Mayor. That alone is an indication that any challenger had no chance of winning anything in Hialeah -not even a beauty contest!

Re your question about Linda Bell:

She always researches any issue prior to deciding her vote and or support/opposition.

She is a very good public servant, so good she is being sued personally by the owner of the Redland Company Charles P. Munz who is on the board of Community Bank. If you google Steve Shiver and Community Bank, you will see why I reference that. Lynda will do well as Mayor, she will get more people involved as well in municipal government. Never a bad thing, I am very proud to call her a friend.

Lynda Bell can be bought and sold to the highest bidder. Realtors support her. Mega developer Mike Latterner supported her. Oh, and over $12K of her campaign funds came from the family that controls Atlantic Civil. This is the same company that wants to destroy thousands of wetlands to create a massive mixed use development known as Florida City Commons.

Need I say more? We need to watch her. She could be the Natacha Seijas of South Dade!!!

My Bad Penny Latterner...say no more. OMG. Would Losner have been better?

Losner was supported by the Farm Bureau who recently had members appeal to the Planning Advisory Board for annexation to Homestead. This is the first step to development of farmland.
However the PAB saw through the smokescreen and denied. PAB member Pamela Gray destroyed their arguments with three questions.
Farm Bureau has issued it's opinion on the UDB, very simply stated, let market forces determine the UDB.
Sounds like development to me.
Rumor is Natacha Seijas gave them $10,000 and a story was in the Miami New Times about it, Farm Bureau disputed the amount and the director Katy Edwards left the reporter a nasty expletive laced tirade of a voice mail below.

Regarding Bell and developers she ran on a platform of a development moratorium. Tuesday at her first meeting the issue will be discussed.

Farm Bureau did it give any of the candidates money. Any one who knows how to read can see it on the financial reports. www.cityofhomestead.com.

Pamela, my dear lady, I hope you are recusing yourself from PAB votes on the Homestead annexations that you vehimently opposed at hearings in the past. Can you say conflict of interest? You should refrain from posting comments that praise yourself on the Miami Herald blog. I wonder what the Ethics Department would say to that?

Banker Bill is the farm bureau...so yes yes yes

Dumb poster, the ethics department don't do nothin' and they have no jurisdiction over blogs...blog away Pamela...and I doubt very much she is writing about herself....but who cares in blog land.

Banker Bill controls everything, right? WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, Losner proposed a building moratorium. Bell will be lost now that she cannot follow his lead and second his motions.

She took money from Latterner, Torcise and God only knows what else will be revealed on her final expense report.

Maybe some money from Shiver and his friends at Community Bank??
