Best things in Miami Herald today: Morin Cartoon on Sleeping Guards at Turkey Point Nuclear Plant and Hiaasen on Dirty Water Flush. by Geniusofdespair

The Miami Herald does have its moments of brilliance, namely The Jim Morin Cartoon and the Carl Hiaasen Column today Counties flush dirty water into the ocean. Frankly, I am disappointed with you Mayor Alvarez, after reading Carl's article.

This is why you SHOULD PAY for the Herald. These guys have to get salaries. And, as a bonus, you get to read all the desperate real estate ads. The hard to read sign on the floor of the cartoon says: "Nuclear Power, the safe alternative." (New readers: Guards at our two reactor nuke plant were caught sleeping recently by Nuclear Regulatory Commission.)

One of the latest enery bill coming out of Wash. DC makes about 12 billion in federal giveaways to the nuclear energy industry to keep them going. Has anybody researched what is the total cost to taxpayers of FPLs new nuclear plant? Who is going to end up paying more, FPL or taxpayers?

FPL estimates it'll cost $12 BILLION to build the new power plant at Turkey point. And yes, all of that will be covered by us users and taxpayers nationwide because of absurd subsidies for nuclear (mind you, nothing meaningful is given for renewables). FPL will continue to make boat-loads of money, and sell themselves as a green company, when they provide virtually no renewable energy, and have virtually no plans to increase this.
